I doubt this will be the tallest in the world. The spire would look even more awkward and ruin the entire tower.

Anyway this is great news. The fact that it'll contain a TV mast is again, another plus and a step forward in bringing this project to reality. I know some people won't like it but once it's built I'm sure it'll become an instant landmark and THE Chicago skyscraper

BTW there's no chance this'll be world's tallest with burj dubai being at the very least 2300ft and more likely around 2700ft. Hope they don't try to increase the height since it'll probably not get built then. Also it's perfect the way it is now, just build it

Chicago has many tall buildings, So? What does your city have that can compare?

The simple answer is no. He (Carley) has submitted an application to rezone the site, which must be approved by the city, and they'll obviously need some time to look into the matter since it's not your everyday project.

Even with that he still faces challenges with financing, getting a hotel, selling units, and neighborhood opposition. Fortunately, the units shouldn't be too hard to sell as they've said that they're getting many interested foreign buyers. SOAR also has been relatively quiet, and they seem to understand the logic behind tall, thin, elegant vs. chunky. I think I remember someone mentioning a long time ago that a French/Parisian hotel was interested in the building, but nothing else has been mentioned so far. And for the financing we will have to wait and see.

Thats not a new rendering. The new ones with the modified top and base havent been released yet. Ive seen this particular one a couple months ago. If you look closely, the pedestal is still there in that rendering which is no longer part of the design.

And I am thankfully that it is not going to be 2,500ft tall. If it did it would overwhelm the skyline and dwarf all else.

Places like Dubai, Miami, and some other city's can get away with building such tall towers if they want to because they don't have real CBD that would be overwhelm their city's cluster and other CBD buildings. More "resort" city's can build stand alone projects with tremendous heights without too much risk of skewing the skyline to a massive degree.

If Chicago built a 2,500 ft. building it might look great but it could also be a disaster if it offset the skyline too much. Some people argue that Sears already does that even though it is "only" 1,500 ft.

It does sort of look like 7SD only twisted, which gives me a feeling that Caltrava was inspired by it.

Well, we can all stop bithcing that the height of Fordham is too close to the height of Sears. Here's some new information from city hall that will tickle your tits....

Now, I don't know if you all can read that clearly, but it says, 1,550 FEET TO THE ROOF AND 1,600 FEET TO THE TOP OF THE WATERTANK

Steely, does this mean we get to change the height on the name of this thread?????????????
