only *tiny* criticism of calatrava's genius: maybe the top could've tapered neatly into a cone??

I like it.It's the most elegant building Calatrava has designed so far and the spire fits perfectly.

you shouldn't. freedom tower is a paranoid, uninspired "design." This Calatrava one is uplifting to look at (even if doesn't end up so white). So I'd much rather think that we can build something like the calatrava one than the disheartening thing they want to build at the wtc.

Incredible that a building that is evidently inspired by Turning Torso in Malm÷ will be USA:s tallest. I can't believe it!
And at first Calatrava didn't even want to build a skyscraper of his sculpture Twisting Torso, it was the investors of Turning Torso that suggested it. Maybe something from this idea made Calatrava change his mind to like this kind of towers. So these Swedish guys have not only changed Malm÷'s skyline, it will also affect the future skylines of New York, Valencia and now Chicago!

WTF? It looks nothing like the freedom tower to me, this is way more slender. Anyway the only similarity I see is the spire.

The Turning Torso in Malm÷ will always be the first twister anyway!

That's a magnificent tower Chicago is getting - in my opinion it would fit better in an Asian city though.

they are all very similar, yet different. you have to keep in mind the locations as well. i prefer chicago's version over the other's posted. it looks much more elegant...plus it is 2,000 feet tall.

I really like the design. Very un-Chicago, which I tend to think of as boxier. Good that they're using space that at the moment is unoccupied. What is Fordham planning to do with the non-condo space? Office space? Is it well-served by transit and roads? Does anyone have a rendering of the Chicago skyline with the Fordham and other projects (like Trump)? Is it that much in the shadow?

I don't care if this fits to chicago or not - it is an amazing design. hopefully this one won't end up like several other great chicago supertall proposals in the past.

The cost might have something to do with the fact that this building only has 920,000 total square feet, compared with 4.5 million for Sears Tower.

I'm a big fan of form following function. How does Calatrava's drill bit design add to the experience of the residents? Will it significantly enhance room layouts or views of the city? How does he plan to mitigate wind loading and the attendant swaying?
