I remember watching this old movie from the early 70s on cable several years back. I think it was called 'Heartbreak Kid' or something like that. It starred Cybil Shepard when she was young. It started out with this Jewish couple who got married and honeymooned in Miami Beach. The guy ditched his wife to get with Cybil. The scenes shot in the beginning of the movie were in Miami Beach were interesting. Old people everywhere just sitting around on their front stoops. I also remember a tv show from the 90's that was initially cancelled, came back to life, then cancelled again, called 'Grapevine', about horny people in Miami dating each other and having sex. I also remember another show from the early 90's set in Miami Beach (I think it was also called South Beach, and the lead actress' last name was D'abo, I think).

It seems Miami Vice has been re-invented. And in a horrible manner. First, it looks like this movie was recorded with a DV camera. Second, what happened to all the excess and glamour Miami is known for? And third, why did they have to pick some of the lousiest actors in Hollywood (Colin Farrell isn't exactly talent).
Why can't we go back to the old days!

It's a Michael Mann film. The trailer reminded me of Mann's earlier film, Collateral. All in all... i like, and can't wait to see my city on the big screen again.
Btw, that is Linkin Park & Jay-Z. Its the Numb/Encore mix. |

Oh yeah....Colin Farrell is no Don Johnson!
But the trailer definitely looks like they departed from the pastels and pink flamingos. It looks mostly dark. I hope the film is a bit lighter than that. Yeah, Rider, like Bad Boys 3! |

There is a new Miami show coming out, I think its on UPN or one of those cable channels. Anyway it looks in the mold of Miami vice. Fast cars, pretty women, lots of drugs and violence. Isnt that all Miami is about?

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - The creators of Comedy Central's "Reno 911!" are taking their cop spoof to the big screen.
"Reno 911!: Miami," which starts shooting January 23 in Miami and Los Angeles, finds the officers visiting a national police convention in Miami Beach at the height of spring break. When the convention center is bio-attacked, it's up to Reno's "finest" to save the day. The 20th Century Fox/Paramount production will be directed by the TV series' co-creator, Robert Ben Garant, who also co-wrote the script of the improvisational-based project and will star. The cast also includes co-creator/writers Thomas Lennon and Kerri Kenney as well as series stars Niecy Nash, Mary Birdsong, Cedric Yarbrough, Carlos Alazraqui and Wendi McLendon-Covey. Garant, Lennon and Kenney originally developed the pilot for the Fox network, which passed on the series. "Reno 911!" then was picked up and redeveloped by Comedy Central, a sister company of Paramount under the Viacom umbrella, and has aired there since 2003. |
