Australia is one of my favorite countries, it's so awesome. I hope melbourne gets it but it's a little far fetched, just because a supertower is proposed does not mean it will happen unfourtunatly.

I'm not sure. |Eureka looks fantastic because it's adding something to the existing skyline and it is in proportion with the rest. It looks like the central piece of a patient effort to give Melbourne a harmonious, remarkable central district.
That supertall proposal surely is remarkable in itself, but how would it look like in the middle of the existing. Will it not look too giangantic? Think of taipei 101. Splendid building in itself but it stands alone in the middle of almost nothing. It almost looks a bit silly.

They have the CN Tower and that is quite a bit more interesting then 975 ft Eureka. Melbourne's skyline is fantasitc but I still feel TO smokes it.

Oh! BTW the topic at hand.....

It would be out of sight to have this monster built in Melbourne. Then this city would be in the major big leagues of supertall.

Sorry, but that's an idiotic statement. Melbourne has had quite a few supertall proposals, and the Grollo Tower ACTUALLY got approved by the authorities but got canned for other reasons. And don't forget that if Eureka were built in most cities in the world, it would be in the top 5 tallest to roof (and often the tallest in many cases)!

Having said that, I agree that this "proposal" looks very dubious for lack of details if nothing else.

Haha - funny, considering that most Melburnians would say the exact opposite...

Pics are now up at Ozscrapers. Follow the link
http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showth...&page=16&pp=20

It's fair to say that most people are fairly sceptical on this one. For one thing the images released are way out of proportion. Having said that they are just concept images at this stage.

I was skeptical to begin with.. but the images just make it obvious its fake.

Either that or theyre hiding a realistic design behind their backs..

Everything about this tower is BS and i dont see why everyones buying into it so easily..

Nice tower. Austrailia's conjuntural situation seems to develop very wel in the slipstream of the Asian economy.

Well, by one of the screencaptures of the news... i edited it slightly...

Using Bourke Place as a yard stick (to roof, not spire because you can hardly see that in the dodgy pic) Bourke Place is 224meters to roof (254 to spire)

I used the ruler tool in photoshop (so it's accurate) i measured out that in the height of the new proposed tower, 3 and about 2 thirds bourke place's could fit.

thats 224(m)*4-70(m). with 70 being a rough guess of how much to chop off.
My result was a 826 Meter tower... For the CBD of Melbourne, that looks like a giant weird red twisti.

Anyway, thoughts on this? i doubt it will happen at that height, 400 meters is Max i guess (if it will even happen at all)

As was stated many times the design looks quite impossible from an engineering perspective...

Apart from it looking stupid aesthetically
