1. Introduction

The Superpolis Project unofficially began in August 2003. Originally no forum existed, but a thread entitled "Make your own skyscraper" in the skybar forum was created by London Bloke. The thread was a popular hit with the SSC forumers and eventually a forum was finally created as "Your Skyscrapers." At this section forumers created buildings similar to what goes on today, however, throughout the ups and downs of activity, it was decided a new direction needed to be taken and a new system. Maps, infrastructure, skylines, architecture firms, committees, and of course skyscrapers were created. The name "Superpolis" was ultimately decided for the city.

The main concept of the Superpolis project is to exhibit and display your own capabilities in creating some type of architectural structure. Not limited to skyscrapers, churches, transit hubs, bridges, masts are all welcome for Superpolis. The following guide was created in helping you take the necessary steps become active in the Superpolis project, help you in creating a structure and allow yourself to familiarize what is within this forum.

2. Creating a Skyscraper

Creating a skyscraper is the primary goal of all participants in the Superpolis project. This is why we're here, to show off our creativity and master the ability to create a skyscraper of our own.

Most forumers here using Microsoft Paint as the program for creating their skyscrapers, it is the recommended choice of program to use to allow for a fair advantage among all the participants.

The following is the standard template used by everyone when creating a skyscraper:



This template serves as 1 plot on the map. However, all of the Superpolis landscape is not the same, there are bigger plots also available in which the following template should be used:



When designing a skyscraper it essential you get the heights correct. The standard rule that should be applied to all skyscrapers is 1 pixel = 0.70 meters.

Tips on creating skyscrapers:

Height: Tall isn't always necessarily better, play around with the heights and determine which one suits your skyscraper's design. Remember the 1 pixel = 0.70 meters rule.

Angle: Ensure that the angle your tower is facing is the right one, you're free to choose the view, however make sure it is consistent with the overall shape.

Shading: One of the toughest characteristics of making a skyscraper, depending on the angle presented, the lighting should be darker on one side of the skyscraper than the other. With a glass facade, there must be brighter spots to add the shimmering, reflective effect.

Plaza: Just as all architects, your skyscraper could have a plaza at the front entrance, take up the whole plot, consist of trees in front, fountains or whatever your creative mind comes up with.

After your skyscraper is completed, you MUST post your skyscraper in the thread, post your skyscrapers here and list the status of your skyscraper with it's name, height, plots and current status:

Proposed - Posted in main Superpolis forum for advice, opinions, but not in the Reviewing Area.
In The Reviewing Area - Currently in the reviewing area.
Completed - On the map and finished.

3. Superpolis Map

Upon completion of your skyscraper and have had uploaded it to a photo host. The next step is choosing a location for your skyscraper in Superpolis. You can do so by looking at the Superpolis Map. It is very important to make sure you do not choose a plot already taken, therefore, choose carefully.

The numbers on the map indicate the land value of the plot. The higher the number, the more difficult it will be to get your skyscraper on that plot, the highest land value is a 10. Land values are a key, if you feel your skyscraper is good enough for a high land value and plot, go for it, but at your own risk.

4. The Review System

The review system is a system based on positive and negative reviews. Through this system the created buildings are either placed on the map or rejected. To read more about this system and the process in getting your new building added to the map, you must read this thread at the Reviewing Area.

5. Various Aspects

There are other various aspects of the Superpolis Project that need to be mentioned.

One is the existence of architecture firms. You can create your own architecture firm or join one of the firms listed here. This allows for team work among architects, sharing concepts and ideas amongst those in your firm. There is no requirment to join a firm, you can go solo if you wish.

Architecture competitions can also be created, but must be specific in what the requirements are and a deadlines will be required to be set to ensure all competitors have a fair amount of time. A thread is created that lists all the competitors and the structure with the most positive comments wins the competition. In some instances, the structure may instantaneously be added onto the map if the other forumers agree.

6. Conclusion

I have a question and I am not sure where to post it but I'll post it here.

What I am having trouble at is when I build a tall tower and save it, the image would look smaller than a shorter tower. For example:

In this image, this tower looks smaller


than this tower.


How do I make it so that both these tower appear as the same scale?

Or even better, we get our own portal just like any real city
