cofferdam is the big circular perimeter wall that you saw last year (in swfc construction updates). There are about 4 to 5 reinforcement concrete bars right inside that circular wall in various depth. I believe what they are doing now is to destory part of the circular wall (only the side that has underground floor under the podium) just to connect some of the underground floors both inside and outside of the circular wall. The reinforcement bars cannot be destoryed, otherwise, the cofferdam would just cave in by the force of the earth from outside.

Actually quite a bit has changed. The central core has risen several feet in the last week and some angle-joints have beeen welded onto the corner beams. Probably the start of some very large diagonal bracing. I think it's nearly ready to take off at the floor-every-few-days rate that the building across the park has achieved.

At least not at night. Look how empty the jinmao is at night, i always noticed this, the only light on is the top decorative light. Is there no buisness done @ night, if so do they do it in the dark? And if not why on earth would they be building another superscraper right across the street.

Because plenty of people work during the daytime? The Pudong office district is in this respect more like American CBDs.

Okay... the top floors of the Jinmao belong to the Grand Hyatt which is a HOTEL!!! If you were staying there, would you want blinding, bright lights to look at and keep you from going to sleep?

Besides, people don't work at night (not usually) and what is the point in keeping the lights on? Its a huge waste of electricity.

There is a possibility tht the tower will switch on the offices light though none was around, instead with beaming spot lights. It gives some life to the tower and pudong nite skyline.

I still have no idea why the floors and the core are hollow up to this point. Please don't tell me they are just making the shell.
Just kidding..
