skyscrapers are mushrooming all over the city, like in a south asian city. is there no master plan, where highrises should belong and where not?

Indifferent. Most people like the Shard and the City cluster.

London doesn't have a masterplan of what can be built where, but in general is creating clusters of tall buildings around major transport interchanges, with office towers in the City and Canary Wharf, and residential in Vauxhall, Elephant & Castle and along the South Bank.

There is no 'zoning' as such in the manner of other cities, but London isn't post-war Sao Paulo. There are restrictions on where buildings can be built due to the viewing corridors, plus there is a promotion for tall buildings in a so-called strategic locations.

Anyone got a photo of the south Bank from Waterloo bridge? Together with 340 Blackfriars, this will radically change the South Bank.

It is impossible to build a residential tower in the heart of financial district.

Personally, I think that it's good to have landmarks here & there...there will be more clusters in the future.

true, but will this be a landmark though? it feels more like an ok fancy building, nothing more. an impressive cluster can become iconic itself.

This residential tower is not going to be alone as there will be other highrises which are already approved.

sweet! looks definitely better having a small cluster than just a standalone building.

I strongly agree!

London is going to look absolutely amazing. So many clusters popping up.

Imagine if all these towers were in just ONE area... crazy! But then it wouldn't be London. London's charm is the mix of ultra modern skyscrapers and older buildings ranging through the ages - its unique.

Incorrect.

It did once... Sir Christopher Wren drew one up. After the Great Fire of London... it would have created large areas etc like in Paris...

London being London however... went its own special route instead.
