NO terminal 1 will not be demolished. Only a slight where the current 4 airbridges are will be removed to build the central pier. After terminal 2 is completed it is said that terminal 1 will be used as a low-cost carrier terminal replacing etudia which is crowded and dirty.

Well, it varies most likley the start of creating the central pier now will begin in April 2009. It will finish in 2011. Terminal 1 will be operating as usuall for low cost carriers. Norwegian will be moving in in april as well as germanwings and easyjet. Some traditional carriers such as Air france will most likley be staying there for a while as well as Aerosvit and Aeroflot. Etudia is be closed (thank god) and no one wants anything to do with it. Nothing will be bulit over it and they wont touch the terminal so far for what i know. Terminal 1 will though get some re-modernization and will be made to create better standars for passengers.

Will the really shameful Etiuda terminal be destroyed ? I hope.
So,no third terminal for Euro 2012 ? Can T1/T2 absorb such an incredible traffic increase ?
Apparently no second airport (as Modlin...) in the region for 2012 too?

to tell you the truth all of the gates and the area where the boarding was held in terminal 1 will be upgraded im sure to stores and where the central pier will be bulit will be just like the other boarding areas at terminal 2 they will keep the current stores but they will add on more stores and demolish (most likley) the wall between termianl 1 and the central pier to have give more space and not to make it look stupid. They will take 3 of the airbridges add them to 3 of the remaining gates on the other side of the piers and repaint them the last on is in no need and will be scraped and is already partially borken no useable. (ive used it to get on a bus)

Documentation for completion of T2 in preparation

01.21.2009, 12:34
Warsaw, 8 January, 2009 – ‘Polish Airports’ State Enterprise signed a contract with Estudio Lamela for the preparation of documentation required to complete terminal investment projects at the Warsaw airport. This constitutes the next stage of the Warsaw Frederic Chopin Airport modernisation and development plan presented in October 2008.

According to the schedule adopted by PPL and announced in October, the selected company has three months to prepare the documentation that will be used to complete construction works at the airport’s apron. Within five months Estudio Lamela will prepare the documentation required to complete the construction of T2 South Pier and construct the Central Pier.

Estudio Lamela will also, within five months, disclose an architectonic concept of the modernisation of Terminal T1 Zone and its integration with T2.

‘Awarding the contract for preparing the documentation is another significant step towards fulfilling the Warsaw airport investment plan communicated in October. Everything is going according to plan. This quarter, we expect to announce a tender for construction works at the apron.’ – says Michał Marzec, General Director of ‘Polish Airports’ State Enterprise

PPL’s investment plans regarding Warsaw Frederic Chopin Airport revealed in October, scheduled to be fulfilled by 2012, amount to PLN 1.2 billion.

The plans include the completion of the construction of T2 (South Pier), construction of Central Pier, and, in the last stage, modernisation of T1 and integration of both terminal zones (T1 and T2) into one building. Apart from investments directly related to the terminal, the plan envisages the construction of a new aircraft parking apron in front of T1, modernisation of aerodrome pavements (including runways), construction of new sections of taxiways and an aircraft de-icing apron, as well the development of centralised fuel supply infrastructure.

Investments not relating to airport infrastructure include the construction of a five-star hotel in front of the terminal (currently a tender for building design is being carried out, in cooperation with the Union of Polish Architects) and the construction on Airport premises of an office building with a conference centre.

The tender for construction works pertaining to the completion of the construction of T2 South Pier and construction of Central Pier will be announced, according to the time schedule, in the second quarter of 2009. The completion of works is planned for the fourth quarter of 2010.

Good news LOTPolskie767.
What will be the capacity of the extended/modernized F. Chopin Airport, surely 20 millions passengers/year ?
And what about Etiuda terminal :demolished or not ?
Will Modlin Int. Airport really be built , and in time for the Euro 2012 ?

Sadly the Extended f. Chopin Airport, only able to take 12.5 but i think thats terminal 1's 3.5 (passed 8 million in 2007) and 6.5 of terminal 2's but i think if u push it liek they did in 2007 i think it would be 22 million. Etudia will be i think just left for. No one will use it. Modlin be bulit for 2012 ? No one knows I hope so.
