Okecie expanding possibilities are not very big, partly because of the new S2 motorway that will be constructed south of the airport. But if they move it 200m south, they could build a new runway and destroy the old so that the airport would have 2 non-colliding runways.

Constr of hotel in front of T2 should start soon:

Can I get a picture of that old white terminal 1 before they started construction of Terminal 2? How many sky-brigdes were there?

There was only 8 loading bridges. Now, there is 27 loading bridges.

Yeah I had some feeling you guys had more.... I always wondered about connections back in those days, so how did LOT manage to fill their B767? They recently expanded with E-jets fleet. I suppose they used their AT4/AT7s as feeder fleet..? I know they have some 737 classis, but they do LHR/CDG and so on... (too big to fit as a feeder fleet)..

Another question, how popular is WAW for someone like heading to Poznan as your final destination. There has to be some competition to stop over in VIE or wherever?

Warsaw has 27 loading bridges, soon there will be 2 and a further 3 (5 in total) installed in Wrocław, should expect a few in Gdańsk with time and Kraków as well. Rzeszów's new terminal will also have 2 loading bridges, none in Poznań.

How did LOT fill it's 767s? well the carrier uses ATR's on domestic flights as well as on flights to such cities as Bratislava, Vilnius, Lwów, Prague etc. E-jets are used on these routes as well as Kiev, Minsk, Odessa, Kaliningrad, Tallinn, Riga, Budapest, Bucharest, Sofia, Belgrad, Beirut, Damascus, Cairo, Tibilisi, Erevan, Donietsk and other. 737s fly on these routes as well, depending on the demand. From my observation, most of the passengers that transfer in Warsaw include citizens of Eastern/Central Europe, the Balkans, Baltic States and most recently Armenia and Georgia. Once flying from YYZ to WAW there was a large number of transit passengers travelling onwards to Bulgaria. Another time I flew from WAW to YYZ our plane was delayed due to over 20 passengers from Kiev, who's flight was delayed. Most recently, when I flew LOT from WAW to YYZ, I sat next to a lady from Lithuania

In regards to the fleet, LOT has a number of E170/175s as well as 3 (total of 4 by the end of the year) E195s, plus 10 options which will most likely be converted into orders soon. 737s are in use as well. The key to LOT's success in becoming a strong carrier in Central Europe and attracting transit passengers from all over Europe to its hub in Warsaw are the 787s Once these are delivered, the long haul route network will be expanded which will result in Warsaw being not only a hub for citizens of countries listed above, but for all of Europe and not only. Eurolot is expected to place an order on 12-14 Q400s as well soon, this will allow to increase frequency on specific routes, though the strategy is to expand service from regional airports in Poland to other European destinations.

In regards to your final question, I flew LOT from Poznań to YYZ, simply because of the price. Many who live in western Poland use Berlin's rich offer, especially now that the A2 Motorway will allow one to travel from Poznań to Berlin in 2.5 hours. Berlin's new airport and Air Berlin's hub will definitely attract many travellers from western Poland as well. Other competition for LOT, specific to Poznań is Frankfurt/Munich (Lufthansa) and Copenhagen (SAS)

Here is a list of LOT's aircraft orders/options:

8 Boeingów 787-8 (ordered, will be delivered in 2012)
6 Boeingów 787-8/9 (order options, will enter service between 2012-2018)
1 Embraer 195 (ordered, will enter service by the end of 2011)
2 Embraer 175/190/195 (order options)
10 Embraer 175/190/195 (order options)

+ expected order of 12-15 Q400s by eurolot.

If all these aircraft are delivered to LOT/Eurolot, we can expect Warsaw to become a major transit hub in Central Europe. For now, it's not as good as it could be

I think this thread should be called: WAW/WMI | Warsaw Airports or WAW/WMI | Warsaw Area Airports.

Btw I wanted to ask you if you would consider coming out to take some photos of LOT B787 whenever they bring it to YYZ? Are you a photography nerd?

Mam nadzieję, że "prawie gotowy" oznacza stacja jest zgodnie z planem.

(Yes, I'm practicing my Polish, and yes, I hope the station is on schedule! Can't wait to try it out. )
