New Terminal 2 will be opened in November
Last Friday, on September 29, an Annex to the Contract for the construction of Terminal 2 at Warsaw Airport came into effect. The Annex regulates such vital areas as the deadlines for putting the project sections into use and the relevant financial arrangements. The Annex provides that the Arrival Hall of Terminal 2 will be opened on November 30 this year. In April 2007 the passengers will be handled in the new Departure Hall and North Pier with jetways and the entire project will be completed by the end of November next year. The above-mentioned deadlines are as follows: Terminal 2 (arrivals) 11.30.2006 Terminal 2 (departures and North Pier with Aerodrome Control Tower) 04.30.2007 Central Pier and South Pier (completion of works) 11.30.2007 P2 Multi-Storey Car Park 04.30.2007 Railway Station, unfinished state 04.30.2007 Long-haul Bus Park 08.31.2007 P5 Ground Car Park 11.30.2007 P5 Ground Car Park 06.30.2007 Rent a Car park 08.31.2007 Road system at the Long-haul Bus Park 12.15.2006 Road system at Petrolot filling station and Post Office (access to PPS12 gate) 06.30.2007 Tunnel under North Roundabout 11.30.2006 Road system from the Roundabout to 17 Stycznia street 09.12.2007 The aprons (approvals about to be finalized). The Annex, negotiated since the beginning of this year, sets out those clauses of the main contract that were not precise enough. ![]() The value of the entire contract will exceed USD 240 million. The adjustment of the upper contract value limit results mostly from the requirements of the Employer (PPL). The security regulations at airports have changed radically since the terms of reference of the contract were first set out. Also the requirements relating to electronic systems, equipment, and quality systems at airports are more stringent now. The Board of “Polish Airports’ State Enterprise considers that it is of utmost importance that the terminal, currently under construction, should be a state-of-the-art facility when completed - the requirements set out in the Annex have been appropriately adjusted. It looks superb, Poland seem to have the fastest growing air travel in the World at the moment, every week new routes are launched from regional UK and Irish cities to regional Polish cities, the diaspora I guess is responsible for a lot of this but also British people are discovering the charm and value for money of Polish cities. I wonder if long haul will take off soon too as the country becomes more wealthy? Also other airports which are already overcrowded such as Wroclaw and Gdansk will need expanding soon.

I like very much how Lamela´s airports projects make visual connections between arrival´s baggage claim areas and departure´s checking-in halls. It looks really fine in Madrid and so will do at Warsaw.

Great new terminal and air bridges, not to keen on the control tower though.

NEW TERMINAL 2 WELCOMES ITS FIRST ARRIVING PASSANGERS ON 1 DECEMBER
A new Arrivals Hall in Terminal 2 (T2) will be put into operation on 1 December 2006. After disembarking international passengers arriving at F. Chopin Airport will be transferred by bus to new Terminal 2 where, upon going through passport control, baggage reclaim and customs control, they will proceed to the landside Arrivals Hall. When the intensity of the arrivals increases in peak hours passengers on some flights will be taken to the existing Terminal 1 (T1) Arrivals Hall. They will undergo passport control and proceed through the link joining the old and new terminal and arrive at Terminal 2 (T2) baggage reclaim area. There, upon baggage reclaim and customs control - they will proceed to the landside Arrivals Hall. A new municipal bus service stop and taxi rank conveniently located in front of Terminal 2 (T2) Arrivals Hall will be available for the arriving passengers. Passengers continuing their journey via Warsaw will be directed to the Transit Area in Terminal 1. Contact F. Chopin Airport personnel for details. ![]() http://www.lotnisko-chopina.pl/t2/in...informacje.php By Pawel Bondaryk ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
