I'd expect some stores (e.g. those in Trinity West and those on Albion Street) to open before the official date. |

I doubt it will be as late as June- late March or April I'd guess.
River Island and Topshop are supposed to be open by the end of this year though I believe.

Surely the church itself could afford it, since it is an incredibly rich organisation.
I always get irate over churches bleeding people dry for funding when their parent companies have billions stashed away

Always a grotesque sight to see cash tills and a £10 or so charge at York Minster. Didn't Christ eject the moneylenders from the temple? |

The Church of England is only rich in assets. It has very little disposable cash.
People shouldn't be charged to go into places of worship, but equally the Church of England can't afford the upkeep of its buildings alone.

Maybe the should sell some of their assets then if they cannot afford to maintain what they've got, instead of 'begging' for donations.

I would quite agree, they should sell their assets- but this isn't a long term sustainable funding plan.

The church of England gets about £60million a year in gift aid alone and is the largest private landowner in the UK (think of the rental revenue), cash poor?
My aching arse.

I'm surprised they've kept the old Boar Lane undercroft bit open to the public so long since they closed the bus stops. I suppose it allows them to work on the frontage without the public in the way.
On another note M&S have done well to have access to their loading bay/car collect point unrestricted during all these works, must be a tight squeeze for the lorry drivers. |

Yes I'm surprised about the undercroft too.
As for loading - it certainly is a tight squeeze and I have no idea how lorry drivers do it. I do think we could do with a more efficient system of getting goods in and out of our cities. I know York, due to its narrow and windy streets, had proposed a hub on the outskirts where goods would be unloaded then ferried into the City on small electric vehicles. Love the new bit of roofing that's going up by the way. I didn't expect the mouth of the arcade to be that wide- it'll be a huge stretch of roofing to say it's not the main dome.
