Surrounding this topic I've posted in the past of this thread, the pending planning process and development is about to take place of the new arena which will soon be a reality. The county, city, and business community will be rolling out the plans, financing, and architectural rendering of the new arena. Rumor is that the arena will cost over $80 million and will have 10,000-12,000 seating with a proposed location in downtown right next to the block that the vacant Hytower Building sits on. With the development of the new arena replacing the East Toledo's 1948-built arena it will create a ripple of effect in redevelopment around the new site just like the Fifth Third Field which breathed new life into the Warehouse District in 2002.

Glass City: Half empty or half full? 4-27-2006

Like many midwestern cities, we are dealing with "brain drain" even it isn't our choice to leave but we have to make personal economic choices to survive. A great article this morning talks about the mayor of Toledo surveying the young folks who left the Toledo region for jobs and other reasonings. I applaud his effort to get a better understanding but in my opinion it will take a region or a state to turn this "brain drain" around. In my own life, I left shortly after high school to the west coast for several years, with great life experiences and warm weather, but it wasn't "home". So I moved back home determined to finishe college and land on a good-paying job. Now that I have a dual degrees (Bachelor's and Master's) and holding a wonderful professional job, I'm thanking my lucky stars that I'm still in my hometown. However I wish it could be for the others to have that same experience because I'm sure many of them would love to come home. Some of my closest friends have moved away in the past decade because of the brain drain factor, they've moved to places like San Diego, Denver, Indianapolis, Fort Lauderdale which I dearly missed them.

Expect to see post #217 from me. LOL!

Starting this weekend and throughout next week or so there will be a lot of happenings here in the Toledo region. Don't be surprised to see us on ESPN, ESPN2, some national radio show, and featured papers.

We have the Jamie Farr/Owens Corning LPGA Golf Tournament at the Highland Meadows in our northwest suburb of Sylvania. There's a weekend-long fanfest and International League All-Stars Game (Minor AAA) from today until Wednesday. Tuesday will be the Thunder over Toledo a grand fireworks show on the Anthony Wayne Bridge. The famous Lagrange Polish festival, Warehouse District Arts & Tour festival on Sunday, and many other events that cannot come to my mind at this hour in the morning.

After this is all blown over hopefully I will get some more development news and pictures posted within over the next couple of weeks. Pictures of construction updates at Westgate, Toledo Hospital, St. V's Hospital, O-I Campus; and development news progress on Marina District, Downtown Arena, Southwyck Mall, and other developments.

My goal this summer is to take "neighborhood showcase" pictures of Lagrange, Old Orchard, Westmoreland, and Point Place.

As a resident of the Warehouse District I am pleased to know that this building stated in the article will be getting a new life. I don't have a picture of this building yet which I will make a note to take one sometime this weekend when I go for a walk. I've been here for about six months and it's been a whirlwind and a wonderful to reside in. From the endless firework shows, riverside festivals and concerts, eateries, shops, parades, farmer market, ball games, etc, etc...I feel like being in a lively party that never end which is a good thing.

Old West Neighborhood 7-18-2006

Took some snapshots in the Old West End neighborhood in the morning before it got hot. Great architectural styles throughout this neighborhood, so many to shoot so little time. Enjoy for now.
