i am reserving judgement till its occupied, but it could have been a lot better.
but on the plus side it gets people talking about architecture, even if it is mainly negative, but i have met someone who likes it.

Thanks -the probject.

If your father likes memory lane and is also of Bootle stock, try googling the Bootle Times forum.

Cheers,

Ged.

update on the new asda,

it seems they have sorted the drainage,

and the have planted some new trees along side the path

but it looks like the sedum roof has died.

Green Merseyside supermarket is 'excellent'

9 Jul 2009, 6:27 PM

A new 'green' supermarket in Bootle, Merseyside has achieved a BREEAM ‘Excellent' rating and is targeted to emit 50% less carbon than a typical store and divert 95% of operational waste away from landfill. The Asda store occupies 6,500m2 and is a timber-frame construction, which also used reclaimed bricks from Liverpool Docks in its construction.

Water taxi for Bootle

For some people living in Sefton there's a new way of catching a cab this summer.

People living in a housing regeneration area in Bootle can take a ride in a water taxi - which is actually an upside down hackney cab, modified by Dutch artist Lambert Kamps.

BBC Radio Merseyside's Jimmy McCracken took a ride >
Help playing audio/video

The taxi is part of the Art for Places project, a three year project taking place in the three local authority areas of Liverpool, Sefton and Wirral. The aim is to help communities reshape their neighbourhoods through public art.

A number of community engagement activities are underway as part of the ‘Art for Places’ initiative which will take place on and around the Leeds & Liverpool canal in Bootle over the summer holidays.

The water taxi will operate throughout August
Other water based activities include canoeing, water rolling and riding a swan pedalo.

The water taxi is completely free and will operate on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays throughout August.

Activities for local residents include:

Swan Pedaloes
Weekends from 1-2 August 2009 until 29-30 August 2009
1/2 hour sessions. 10am – 12pm and 1pm – 4pm

Water Rollerz
Weekends from the 1-2 August 2009 until 29/30 August 2009
10am – 12pm and 1pm – 4pm

Canal Taxi
Fridays/Saturdays/Sundays from 31 July until 20 Sept.
Operates hourly 12 – 5pm from St Winnies.

[QUOTE=Howie_P;39511842]Green Merseyside supermarket is 'excellent'

looks like asda are trying to sort the roof out
some guy was looking at it a few weeks ago

glad to see it has achieved a BREEAM ‘Excellent' rating.
a good story for Bootle for a change.

its a pity about the smoke that it gives off
but this is not very often.
