those artificial water ponds look really big---and good.
How are they "feeded"?
Is it water from the sea, that is just pumped into the pond, therfore saltwater?
And do you have direct access from the sea to that ponds? or is it not salt water?

Right now the buidlings still look quite cheap, but when they are finished and the landscaping with a lot of palm trees will be finished, I think it could look quite nice

I think its great that Dubai is booming and all but one can't help but wonder, why is Dubai building all this extreme density oriented towers when it has a permanent population of less than a million? Taking those towers out of context looks like they are meant for cities with populations over twenty million. Does Dubai believe that its population will explode to the tens of millions in the next decades? Or is it fine with a 10% occupancy rate in its skyscrapers? Would Dubai have been better off building overly extravagant palaces all over the city to flaunt its wealth? I mean that would gain Dubai the reputation of being the city of palaces rather than a booming skyscraper city but would that have been a better idea? I mean no disrespect whatsoever in asking that. Just a curiosity.

I try not to ask that question, but rather enjoy the results.

Financially, many of these skyscapers don't make a lot of senese. Their height reduces the percentage of rentable space, and the availability of open acreage certainly diminshes their necessity. I guess you could say the buildings are a tourist attraction of themselves, but after the first or second super tower or man-made island, I don't know that any value is still being added. Dubai reminds me of a trust fund baby that doesn't know the value of money.

But, I absolutely love Dubai's buildings all the same! They make me wish Bill Gates or Warren Buffet would take some of the US$62 billion they have set aside for the poor and use it to build a few vain archetectural wonders in the US. That would be selfish, though.

It really doesn't seem to make sense at all right now. But once Projects like: BD Mall, BD Tower, and Palm Jum are finished. These Projects along with a number of others will cause people will be drawn to Dubai by the millions.

Yes spacescraper, your proposal is pretty hilarious with setting money aside from the poor. maybe those poor can live in those vain buildings.

But yea on the contrary though, what if Dubai used all this money instead of building skyscrapers to show off, build extravagent palaces? would that be a better idea? like you know those huge imposing middle eastern ziggurat style palaces of ancient and medieval times? sort of like a city sprawling with Hanging Garden palaces and a whole city full of them with wide boulevards lined with palm trees? That would attract perhaps more tourists and have a unique one-of-a-kind city that would still be as impressive. I would prefer that than what Dubai has become.

Whats worse is that what Dubai is doing right now is drawing people in to compare it with places Shanghai. Dubai to Shanghai is like an android to a real human. Artifical intelligence to organic intelligence. Not saying I dont like Dubai, I love the architecture but it looks so artificial

Yea true but arent people drawn to Dubai to live on its man-made islands rather than its skyscrapers? Dubai is very interesting but I think the skyscraper construction is pretty forced
