![]() My brother emailed the above photo to me at the weekend. He took it from the old Borders bookshop looking along Gordon Street. It brought to mind the following piece by Bill Bryson in his book Notes From A Small Island: 'I remember when I first came to Glasgow in 1973...and being profoundly stunned at how suffocatingly dark and soot-blackened the city was. I had never seen a place so choked and grubby. Everything in it seemed black and cheerless. In the subsequent years Glasgow has gone through a glittering and celebrated transformation. Scores of old buildings in the city centre have been sandblasted and lovingly buffed, so that their granite surfaces gleam anew...' You said it, Bill. Glasgow - the city that washed its face. |

It's a beautiful city, no doubt. Would like to see some more of those green things in the centre though! (I know we have countless parks, i just like tree lined streets ).

The view from Borders was great! Massive shame we can't get to it anymore. Imagine a couple of skyscrapers rising in the background of that shot.

![]() ...then some water and a few wee boats... ![]() ~o0o~ If the southern part of Glasgow city centre had canals instead of streets then I guess this would be the city's Rialto Bridge... Imagine sailing beneath the Hielanman's Umbrella in a gondola? Very surreal! |

Yes, SZJ.
I've been counting off the days. I've been counting them off since the end of last summer, in fact. Soon this will be a distant memory... ![]() It will seem like a horrible dream implanted in our brains by an especially sadistic and vicious inhabitant of the nethermost regions of hell. |

Nice stuff Pious Fraud, I still remember Glasgow as being that black. I kinda miss it really
![]() Anyway, here's a photo I took a few days ago. It's about 4/5mb photo of some works down at the coop building place in Tradeston. http://i.imgur.com/fqK91.jpg Just a quick snap on a compact camera.....Glasgow is a very easy place to photo!

Glasgow is made for black and white photography. I'm sure some very atmospheric pics could be captured around the Cathedral/Necropolis area. Quote:

That is such a shame, I also had hoped that this front older part with the clock tower could be saved.
It is clear as the nose on our face that this fire was deliberate after sitting empty for many years.....

![]() 'A woman at a bus stop does her best to ignore the strange figure sharing the shelter with her' I think this is a marvellous picture. It says so much about Glasgow and its people. What the caption writer fails to realise is that there are actually parts of Glasgow where a person decked out like the fella above wouldn't even get a second look. Love this city.
