thanks for explanation.
with or without snow, the surroundings are beautiful.

Yeah. On the south you have islands some half hour away by ferry, and on the north are these mountains for you to climb.
Besids the city of Split it self, the whole urban area has alot to offer too!
About 5km away you have Solin, which is a beautyfull city on a small river.
Next to it are the 2200 year old city of Salona ruins.
Some 3km to the north, between Kozjak and Mosor is an old fortress of Klis, which defended us from the Turks in the 16th century.
20km to the west is another gem - UNESCO World Heritage city of Trogir.

I'll cover all of them in the near future, so stay tuned...

Split has a coastline 14 kilometers long, with 10 kilometers of beaches
When you want to go to for a swim, you have everything you want. Urban and secluded... covered with sand/gravel/stone...party beaches...nudist beaches....

The most famous one is Bačvice. It's located in a cove, just east to the city port:

In the summer, there are numerous concerts and parties held there, in the sea. Last year was the record attendence - 60,000 people!

On the north coast of the Marjan hill (the west tip of the Split peninsula) you can find many calm beaches surrounded by pine forrest.

This is Bene:

On the south side are Kašuni (with a nudist section):

East of Kašuni is Ježinac:

Traveling on to the east, we come to the city port, then Bačvice, and then to the small cove called Ovčice:

East of that is a cove of Firule:

Further to the east is the Zenta marina, and after that is Trstenik:

The last one is Žnjan:

It's a large plateau made by landfill. It's a site of the future development in terms of building a seaside promenade, a marina, hotels, bars and so on.

Marjan is a 178m tall hill on the western tip of the peninsula.
It's covered in pine tree forrest and it's our main recreation zone. A real green oasis, to get away from all the city noise.

Marjan offers some of the best views of the city:

Let's see some smaller parks.

Sustipan is located just above the ACI Marina, and on top of 20m high cliffs.
On the south side you have a view of the sea and the islands, and on the north side, you can see the city. It's my favourite park.

Right next to Sustipan park, to the west, is Zvončac:

One of the oldest parks is Đardin. It's located right next to the northern palace walls and it was redesigned in 2002. by Boris Podrecca:

Emanuel Vidović park is about a kilometer to the north:

There are more parks in the city, but these are the most notable ones...
