I'm a fan of modernism, so it's a toss up between Toronto and London for me. I love Fosters work, so I'll go with London.

London´s city hall is THAT SMALL??? For a city with 10 million people??? Really... its smaller than the city hall of my city, which has 250k people and its not capital of anything.

Brussels by far. If Vienna was nominated, I would've had a difficult time making this choice.

I only wish I had seen this nomination thread before because the UK and other continental European cities have magnificant city/town halls. Personally London has lagged behind other UK cities with its city hall, the original City Hall (the massive building next to the London Eye) isn't anything to really shout. It is though far nicer than the current London City Hall and the Toronto + Tokyo City Hall's. The nicest here though is clearly Brussels - just look at it - the detail, the thought, the atmosphere, the imposing nature.

All someone needs to do is build a new London City Hall on a style like Brussels, Manchester or Leeds, but make it seveal times larger!

What are you talking about. The old London city hall is crap. The new one is so amazing, Its architecture is just incredible. It shows london isn't stuck in the past like many other european cities and is looking to the future.

1. Brussels
Wonderful architecture! And it just clearly dominates the area immediately, esp with its giant dome/spire in the middle of it. It screams to me of town hall.

2. Philadelphia
The colour and the facade is just so beautiful also! I've always been a fan of this sort of architecture, with its collums and striking windows.

As for the others, I can't really rank any of them anymore. But if I were to comment, I'd say that London's town hall is really dissapointing as I don't think it represents its past, or its dominance anymore. The buildings really nice though, but I wouldn't go so far as to want it to be a town hall of such a great city.

Tokyo's one is just a typical skyscraper; though nice in design, I think (in complete contradiction to London's one) is too big to be a town hall. Or at least, I'd prefer town halls to scream out "HEY, I'M A TOWN HALL!" as opposed to "HEY, I'M A SKYSCRAPER!". But the designs nice. I once read that it was designed to look like a computer chip. |_|

Finally, Toronto! When I first saw this building in the Toronto skyline, I asked myself: "Toronto has a headquarters for the United Nations?" since it looks like such a United Nations sort of piece! Personally, I DESPISE concrete. I hate it with intensity. But for some reason, this time the turqoise windows and the concrete actually blend in well. And it actually does look abit like a town hall alas! (And keeps in tradition with Toronto's concrete nature )
