Looks great! Was there much opposition to tearing down two expressways?

Why sacrifice a highway for a river?
Won't there be huge objections?

To improve the environment both for living and business,

BTW, Nothing sacrifice for this stream.
In any case that old and ugly concrete expressway has to be demolished.

If you visited Seoul in South Korea three years ago, you probably wouldn’t have noticed a river running through the CBD, but it was there: hidden underneath a major highway. Well, over the last couple of years the Cheonggyecheon River has been exposed by completely dismantling the highway, the river has been cleaned up and the city revived. Not only have the residents regained their ancient river but they’ve also lost a major source of congestion and pollution in their city centre. Dr Kee Yeon Hwang from the Seoul Development Institute talks to Geraldine Doogue about this amazing environmental project.

http://www.metro.seoul.kr/kor2000/ch...seoul/main.htm

That's the link

It says the expressway is not safe because of the pressure underneath so they have to tear it down.

Agreed, this project is quite incredible. Hopefully it will serve as a model for other cities as to how a small urban stream can have a more positive effect than a huge, congested freeway. I hope it is well-received in Seoul.

Only one question. This:

Looks quite dangerous. Those of us who have spent some time in mountainous areas knows how slippery that kind of stone can be when it gets wet. Have there been any problems with falls, or are they treated to keep from being too slippery?

If you do something with water, visit Holland first!!!

Could have been a nice idea, all those bars and restaurants near the water

They probably are. But you could never do the same in the west...our sueing culture would completly prevent it .
