seven. With the existing 11 the line will have 18 stations.

This is how the network will look like after the planned extensions:

What will happen to metro lines 1/2 and 5/6 after installation of the new CBTC? Is STIB going to convert the lines into fully automated and driverless operation?

No, when the extension will be completed the line will be completely converted in heavy rail, the existing tramlines will lose their direct connexion and stop at Gare du Nord or Albert. They are also studying an eventual extension to the south in Uccle.

Gare du Nord and Albert have platforms provided for tram-operation when line 3 is converted into metro. But I wonder how they operate trams at Albert. Will they use the prepared tracks in the ticket-hall, making Albert an underground transfer-station between tram and M3 or will trams stay at the Surface, terminating there?

But what will happen in the southern parts of the new line?

From Albert there are two tram / premetro lines. One of them only has one intermediate station, Berkendaal, that's only served by theese lines (3+4), but the other one (51) has 6 intermediate stops between Albert and the junction at Globe (where the southern part to Van Haelen can be diverted on the tracks currently used by line 4.

Somehow something has to be changed to the southern parts of todays line 3, 4 and 51.

As Albert is underground, I assume it won't be easy to add a leg to the junction to make it a triangle.

Also it seems like that the premetro and ordinary trams share some tracks between Gare du Midi (Zuidstation) and Lemonier.

Is there any information about this? (I understand a little bit flemish but no french at all)
