They are very beautiful indeed!

And you saw the T3000, we also have the T4000. They're 2 units longer, more than 40 meters in length!

Eigenlijk zijn alleen maar een paar halve lijnen toegevoegd als lapmiddeltje.

I know this is about Brussels but talking about railways. This is the bigger picture of the Belgian Railways. The map is dated though...

At the moment the Brussels government has decided a new metrostation with connecting premetrostation named "stalingrad" will be build a few meters south of the actual station Lemonnier that is not ready for the conversion to full metro.

I wonder if at some point, the older metro trains would undergo refurbishment and be repainted in the same livery as the newer metro trains and the newer trams.

On a side note, I've always liked the new STIB livery. It is simple yet very attractive.

I don't think so. I think they will stay the way they are until they can be retired.

Definitely the most beautiful livery in Belgium! Sober but elegant! compared to the flemish Delijn and the walloon TEC

Thanks for the placing your great pictures here Thermo!

This is since 14th of this month the new metro+chronos networkplan. Chronos are tramlines who run partly in premetrotunnels and complety on separate grade with high frequenties and large trams.
Line 1,2,5 and 6 are real metrolines lines 3, 4 and 7 are Chronoslines.

Brussels Trams/Streetcars

Allthough in Brussels a lot of lines were replaced by bus and metro, there's still a network of 133 km, of which 12 km is underground (mainly north-south-junction under the center). New extensions are in progress.

The rolling-stock exists of about 330 old en new trams of 3 types, PCC 7700, 7800, 7900 (189 in 2010), Bombardier Tram 2000 (51 in 2009) and Bombardier Flexility Outlook 3000 and 4000 (186 in 2010).

The PCC-trams will all be replaced by large Flexility-trams in the coming years.

Some pics (all taken by myself throughout the years):

I wonder if it would be feasible for Antwerp and Gent to have their own transportation companies, instead of relying on De Lijn to be the sole provider.

Similarly, how feasible would it be to break the TEC's monopoly on transportation in Charleroi and Liege?

I went to Brussels at the beginning of this week, and I saw a very strage thing: underground trams!

Are there other cities in the world that have underground trams?

Another information please: what's the official radio of the subway stations? They play many 80s hits, my favourite music!

Sure: in Belgium there are underground trams in Antwerp and Charleroi.

(Charleroi)

In Germany you've got the stadtbahn in Cologne and Bonn.

(Cologne)

(Bonn)

In Holland there's a short underground section in The Hague.

And I suppose there are other (partly) underground tramsystems in the world.

Well in North America there's Boston, Philadelphia, New Jersey, Toronto, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Minneapolis and San Francisco. (There's more Light Rail systems in the US than that, but they either lack underground sections (Houston, San Jose, Phoenix, Denver, Salt Lake City, Charlotte) or have stops too far apart and/or frequencies too low to be a tram line (Portland, Dallas, Seattle, St. Louis, Sacramento, San Diego).)

Tram 7 has got an underground section in the very eastern part of the line.

Also other trams (51, 24, 25) partly use these tunnels.

So Chronosline 7 is just another name for the former tramline 23? It's a pitty the Cronoslines has got to stop at almost every crossroad, which makes them rather slow at some parts of their traject.
