I doubt the business case for the loop stacks up. There is a bus (168) which travels a route roughly parallel to the loop from droylsden to chorlton and it's always pretty dead. A supermarket and some apartment buildings have also been built on it in fallowfield town centre making its rebuilding more of a challenge.

Do they publish passenger number predictions, for each intended extension of the system - and have these turned out to be accurate, over the years?

The predicted passenger figures will have been published somewhere (I think) although I am not sure where.

I do know that the original Altrincham to Bury service exceeded expectations. Metrolink also believes that the new stop in Chorlton will be the busiest on the entire network.

Services on the new South Manchester Metrolink line were suspended just a day after it opened, after thieves attempted to steal overhead cables.

Passenger numbers for the full Phase3 network expected to be about 60m.

SML back working about 10:30 I think.

Wouldn't it have been simpler to steal the wires before they turned the power on...?

Testing on another new line started last night.

First tram made it's way from the back of Piccadilly towards Velodrome during the night on the mostly street running Ashton line.

It's hoped passenger services will reach City of Manchester stadium for the start of the new football season, Droylsden by next spring and Ashton by 2013 sping.

The line openings are going to start coming thick and fast now for several years.

Great news - loving the stepped openings. Each one will get its own publicity, and really make the city feel like it has a comprehensive metro system!

Artistic impression of a fly through showing the second city crossing...

I've very impressed by the efforts that someone has gone through to produce that!!!

They certainly went to a lot of effort to get decent models and surface textures of the major structures, but the streetscape itself looks far too clean. And why don't these fly-throughs ever show the OHLE? It's misleading not to show this.

OHLE locations wont have been decided yet so would be misleading to show them. The model is Manchester Councils, its a 3d model of the entire city centre with the utilities and such overlays that they keep up to date and use for planning/development, for example planning app for a new building you put it in the model and can see sightlines how it looks from any street or angle elsewhere in the city.

Will other traffic on Cross Street be minimised? - the video implies none.
How will shops along Cross Street cope with deliveries? How do deliveries work on Mosley Street now, replenishing ATM's etc?

Was typing out a detailed explanation, but they put up traffic maps anyway.

They could have used a slightly more up to date stagecoach livery on the buses shown! The white with three stripes is ancient history!

And there is a district lack of ohle shown

So? We know there'd have to be wires above each track. At least they could show those, even without anything visibly holding them up. That'd still give people an idea of where the wire's level will be relative to building façades and street furniture.

Dec - Oldham line as far as Central Park.

Early next year Ashton line as far as Velodrome.

Both are built and waiting for the signalling to be rolled out.
