On the Dubai waterfront video on the website( http://www.thedubaiwaterfront.com/ ), it looks great as they show the cars approaching the lobby. The inner part of the tower looks amazing! Ofcourse it's not as nice as BD.

It's a billion dollar tower, you'd think they could buy a good design. Emaar hired Adrain Smith, a proven and original architect, for Burj Dubai. They in return got a good looking building. Nakheel, in contrast, went cheap and hired untallented, unproven architects and it shows. Al Burj looks like a 200 story cheese grater with two pathetic sticks on top, and they paid millions for it.

That's what you get when you hire the son of IM Pei and not the real deal.

Dubai overbuilding? Naw. It all makes sense until the correction. It will be fun to see the desert reclaim the remains, and hear the bravado echoing hopelessly in the hot, dry wind.

I think tourist visitor number is not the only factor that runs Dubai Building boom. Property investers and Business People are which I believe the 2 major components of the boom

I am guessing Niagra Falls's 15 million come to visit the city from neighboring cities, by cars, etc.. and all 15 million don't check into hotels. The 5.5 million counted for Dubai are measured by hotel check ins.

"A total of 5,420,724 guests checked-in at the Dubai hotel and hotel apartments in 2004 as against 4,980,228 in the previous year.

If we counted all the 'visitors' into Dubai it would be..... a lot. For example there are literally thousands of people from neighboring cities that commute to Dubai just for work. Not counting all people who travel to and fro often for leisure.

200 Story cheese grater? It looks like a very unique design to me and I like how the top "flattens" out instead of forming into a spire. I think they did a very good job in designing it. It's going to be spectacular.

I don't see why there's hate for this building. Hell I'd rather see this in Chicago than that weird looking Calatrava building.

I really dont get it.... people honestly think that the al burj is a bad design???? its one of the best proposed skyscrapers out there. It fills all the criteria people normally criticise towers against... its tall, hasnt got a spire and doesnt taper much towards the top, but beyond that its got the worlds biggest atrium, as the whole tower is holllow all the way up, its got the worlds highest outdoor swimming pool, and apart from anything else its damn good looking.

It seems to me that if you get world renowned architects you end up with the fordham spire or the freedom tower, yet if you get somebody on the strength of their work rather than reputation, you end up with something as awesome as the al burj!

Well, it does actually seem to have a massive spire
Anyways, Al Burj looks great at night but kind of dull in the day.

I'm afraid your juvenile post is asking for the bashers to come in. Why not offer your opinion on this newly proposed building then asking for a Dubai vs The World battle?

Your are already ruining this thread.

I agree, it's time for some fresh new people designing skyscrapers.
