Excellent, good to see a bit of grass there, and it should only take about a week to cover that in soil and grass.

Good stuff kat. Although as seen in your photos there is clearly still a bit of work to do, it feels in certain areas that there has been a noticable increase in the speed of work in the last week or two which is good to see.

Looks like they are preparing to re-instate the statue at the Pier Head. Scaffolding has gone up around the stone base, and there is a crane on-site -

The National Museums Liverpool blog states that the King Edward VII statue shall return to the Pierhead this week.

Thumbs up

Statue spotted coming out of (or going into) the Victoria Street entrance to the Conservation Centre at around 12 noon today. It's actually quite large from ground level!

The other statue on the Nortern section is partially in place on site also. Still looking at a Sept opening, what with a full L1 opening then should be a busy time, hope for good weather...!

I won't post the webcam link again - it's up there - but it looks like it's full steam ahead on the central section now. With the portakabins moved, the left hand side is seeing some work, and the paving in the foreground seems to be progressing well too.

From the Daily Post -

King Edward VII's triumphant return to Liverpool

Jun 18 2008 by Laura Sharpe, Liverpool Daily Post

A MAGNIFICENT bronze horse rode through Liverpool yesterday – on the back of a lorry to return to its rightful place back on the city’s waterfront.

After 12 months of restoration work, King Edward VII was mounted back on his plinth at the Pier Head.

And, like a horse leaving its stable for the first time, the 4.2 tonne equestrian monument was reversed out from Liverpool Conservation Centre.

With only a few centimetres to spare each side, the 4.88m high and 2.46m wide King on his horse was rolled out in his full glory, the true detail of the craftsmanship visible for the first time in many years.

After painstakingly getting the statue onto a low loader, it was then lifted by three harnesses onto its granite pedestal in front of the Cunard Building.

There's a full five pages of images working from Canning Dock through to Trafalgar Dock.

According to project managers this week, the Pier Head canal and public realm will be open to the public at the end of September. Certain areas will be open to the press for the Tall Ships, 18-21 July. Certain areas may also be open to disabled for the Tall Ships.
