LONDON: 51 Lime Street (125m)

51 Lime Street, London

Architect: Sir Norman Foster
Developer: British Land
Height: 125m
Floors: 26

Anyway, there's been substantial progress in the last few weeks. Demolition is now 100% finished, the concrete base has been poured, and the 1st floor of the main building's core has risen. The smaller building's core (to the right) has reached the 8th floor.

This will be the 4th tallest building in the City of London after Tower 42, SwissRe and CityPoint.

Pics from today:

I'm not a huge fan of the look of this development. I guess it will look better in real life than in the rendering though.

What was there before that they had to get out of the way? This new building is probably a thousand times better; I love the way it looks.

I like it too! I like the width of it. Makes up for the average height. Oh and for sure the design is great too. I'll have fun watching this rise.

This building will have more floorspace than SwissRe.

It was a lowrise 2 or 3 story building with arched windows; okay but nothing special. This new building is an eye-catching design and will be a very striking landmark on the London skyline, especially when viewed from the South Bank around City Hall/Tower Bridge where it will be most prominent.

Looks like a great design. Good to see SOMETHING underconstruction in London. I see this is going to be called The Willis Building - I like the address as the name better - Lime is such a cool name for a street & particularly this building.

The old thread lives! It's on page four, right here to be exact. Can one of the mods merge them?

In the meantime here's a jaw dropping aerial of the site from the old thread (credit to Rickster2K)

Whilst it may not dominate the cluster or even be up there with the current big two, let alone proposed/approved skyscrapers.. it will still have an important function, infact this could be the tower that keeps it all together.. With its smaller shelves being amongst the midrises, slowly peaking at a medium height between the current talls and smalls it will create a nice levelling to the skyscape.. just what it needs

And that Aerial is amazin

That's a lot of progress. I'm really looking forward to see you this will really look in the skyline.
