Westfield London - major new shopping centre | Shepherd's Bush | 1.6m sq ft
We lost the old thread in what will be known as the infamous July hacking.
Seeing as I live ten mins walk away and occasionally get rather good vantage points, I thought I'd start the thread again. Anyway..... here goes. Construction Start 2004 Finish 2009 ![]() Originally proposed and started by Chelsfield, Elliot Bernard the company's founder sold out to Multiplex, Westfield and the Reuben Brothers in late 2004. White City comprises 1.5million sq ft of retail shopping in West London. With this critical mass, White City will provide a major regional retail, catering and leisure destination of metropolitan scale. The project is being developed in partnership with Westfield who hold a 25% stake. The White City Development involves a major regeneration that is to be built on a derelict site between Shepherd’s Bush and White City. Multiplex will be designing and building a 200,000m² shopping centre that includes four anchor stores and approximately 270 other retail outlets, a leisure complex spanning 13,000m², cinema, two new public transport hubs and 4500 car parking spaces. The development is spread over six levels, comprising three levels of car parking (two underground), two levels of retail and leisure complex at roof level. Once completed, it will have a capacity of over 25,000 patrons at one time. Transport improvements work (£150m) include a new bus station along Wood Lane, a new rail station on the West London Line, a rebuilt Shepherd’s Bush underground station and an addition to the Tube map with a White City station built on the Hammersmith and City Line. The site in early June from Aldine House (the offices of BPP Professional Education). ![]()

If anyone can find bigger or better renders of the scheme then you're better men than me - I've exhausted google et al and found nothing. Since the Chelsfield site was taken off line after the buy-out there seems to have been a total blackout on renders of the scheme. Bah!

They could have easily built a new street layout with a destination public centre and lots of mixed architecture buildings, but oh no it is far less work to let a single developer rake in as much profit as possible and build a big flat shed ... this`ll have minimal long term adapatibilty with a life span of 20 years no doubt, I just dont know why we still do stuff like this!

270 shops?
How many shops does Bluewater have? How many shops does Brent Cross have? Only about 100 or something? So it's gonna be big then! I'm all up for shopping centers cos I'm a compulsive shopper. |

Hehe, originally the development started with like 100 shops but it seems to have got bigger and bigger...maybe they did some surveys and saw the demand for a mega shopping complex in West London.

a huge shopping centre with a tube station. Sounds good to me. Although I much prefer shopping online, or smaller places out and about, this will be an addition to London.

good work team - I think Madman's black and white image is the most recent iteration of the design with the curved sail sort of roof in the middle.
In terms of transport, the new Shepherd's bush tube and bus interchange will be most welcome, as will the extra stop on the West London line, meaning the site will be literally 10 mins from Clapham Junction via West Brompton and Kensington Olympia. I'm a bit sniffy about shopping centres in general, but this will be an amazing boost for Shepherd's Bush which has been undergoing a bit of a renaissance recently. The nighttime render by dayrelease also shows the scope of the site. truely enormous. By the way, the outdoor walking shop which was next to the tuve station (and was the front of the old paintballing/gokarting bit) shut a couple of weeks back due to the Tube station development which I presume means construction should be imminent. |
