Yes and no.

The NYC Transit subway runs 24 hours/7 days and serves (almost) all stations at all times.

However, the NYC Transit bus system has numerous lines that do not have overnight service. Generally, because you can take the subway overnight. This is the exact opposite of most other cities, which run night buses because you can't take the metro overnight.

Since the subway runs all night, there is no separate night-service map, or even a special name for late-night service.

In Chicago, the CTA (Chicago Transit Authority) provides 24/7 service (called "Owl" service) on two of the seven "L" (elevated metro) lines, the Red and Blue Lines.

Most bus service shuts down overnight, however. A few key routes continue to run, with minor service alterations to connect downtown to areas of the city where "L" service has shut down.

However, it's pretty much a skeleton service, and there is no separate map to denote the Owl routes. Although, the five "L" lines that do shutter overnight are only stopped from about 1:00am to 5:00am.

Here's Toronto's nightbus network known as the "Blue Night Network" after the blue mylar exposures used on the overnight bus and streetcars routes.

The network is being expanded as of September 4, so the map hasn't gone completely public. Here's the current one, with the existing routes until Sept. 3, 2005.

Seattle's Night Owl Map:

They all leave Downtown at 2:15, run their route and then come back and leave as a different route at 3:30.

Routes mentioned on the map but not shown:
120 Downtown Seattle-White Center
174 Downtown Seattle-Sea-Tac Airport
280 Downtown Seattle-Bellevue

I was going to do London, but it's so complex with so many routes on the night buses.

Also, many of the normal bus routes operate 24hours a day.

These are the seperate night bus routes
to actually see the PDF's goto this page

The routes above are purely "Night Bus" routes, i.e. those services dedicated to only working during the late hours. There are also countless 24hour bus services throughout the city, far too many to list here, but you can find them here

^I've found London's nighttime network both reliable and plentiful. Go N50!

Minneapolis has no night transportation that i know of, aside from taxi's. thus making sure that the maximum amount of people drive home drunk every night.

There are a handful of bus routes that opperate 24 hours aday, albeit at greatly reduced frequencies. There are maybe 3 or 4 Owl Routes, and then several other routes that only shut down for between 2-4 hours at night. But you are right, it is by no means meant to provide transportation home from bars, etc. at night.

Metropolitan Barcelona has 34 lines called Nitbús (Nightbus). Most of them are suburban, which lets almost everyone in the metro region (ca 5 million) have night bus service. Frequencies vary from 20 min to 1 hour 15 min, depending on the line.

BRISBANE

In Brisbane both Busses and Suburban Trains will be running 24 hour services on Friday's and Saturday nights only.
The rest of the time the system shuts down between 1am and 4:45am for maintenance.

Night buses in Vallès Occidental (Barcelona's Metropolitan Region):

And this is the line who arribes to my town: N65 Barcelona-Castellar del Vallès. Operated by "La Vallesana":

And a photo. The bus panel shows line C1, the two first services in night run only between Sabadell and Castellar del Vallès, and the bus driver put the day service in the panel:

Ticket (from Sabadell/Plaça Espanya to Barcelona):

Other photo of N61 line in Sant Cugat del Vallès, photo from this web: http://www.geocities.com/autobusesbcn :

Since the night-bus map of Amsterdam was off-line, I'll post a new one:

All night lines are recognisable by their three-digit line numbers, starting with 3. Except for the lines 354, 358 and 359, none of the lines has a real terminus, but makes a loop in the suburbs. There are also some regional night services, but they are not listed on this map (whereas they used to be when the 'old' system was still in service (with 9 city lines, all recognizable by their two-digit line numbers starting with a 7). All lines stop by at either Leidseplein or Rembrandtplein; the two major night-life hot spots of Amsterdam.
