Docklands Light Railway

I couldn't find the other thread, so thought would start a new one.

The latest news on the Airport link is:

Construction of Docklands Light Railway’s 4.4km extension from Canning Town to London City Airport and King George V at North Woolwich has reached another important milestone.

Following inspection using a gauging train to ensure that there were no obstacles on or on either side of the tracks, the route was powered up and test trains are now running.

Now at the commissioning stage, during the next three months works will include individual testing of each railway system – particularly signalling – leading to the next step which will be integration into the existing network.

The final stage of testing will be the system performance demonstrations when the trains will follow proposed service patterns.

Construction of the four stations is well under way and the £140m project is on schedule to open in December.

Work has also started on the 2.5km extension from King George V under the Thames to Woolwich Arsenal. The City Airport extension together with the Woolwich extension and the proposed conversion of the North London Line to form the Stratford International extension will all be operational in good time for the 2012 Olympics – ensuring that Docklands Light Railway will be at the hub of east London transport systems.

Yes Zim I did notice that there was a train on the tracks a couple of days ago.
This will take a bit of work off me when it opens as I tend to drop off there once or twice a week.

Does anyone have that massive map showing all the future proposals that we do not yet know of (ie beyond Woolwich, Stratford International, etc...)?

Wasn't that a pdf from the tfl website, with 2012, 2014 or 2016 in the title?

Nah, not that one. I remember making my own version, only for on to be published 1 week later!

This one showed a line from around Bank up to possibly Stratford and other bits and bobs. I've heard also of a line going down along Greenwich.

No I've seen that one for ages. There was a version in the Evening Standard months ago showing more lines and routes than those shown above, ie a future future map of the future map above!

Funny though how this network is as large as another city's mass-transit system!

Name - Current Stations (Future Stations)
Docklands Light Railway - 33 stations (49 stations)
Vancouver Skytrain - 32 stations (33 stations)

Can't wait to see the DLR expanded. I take it everyday to work now, and prefer it to the Underground. Has anyone else read about the extension to Catford from Lewisham?

I took a loot at the extension a couple of weekends back. They were testing a train on it at the time so clearly they are well on their way. I think the elevated track looks a bit chunky, but the new stations are really quite attractive. And the station at City Airport all fits together with the terminal really well.

See this is the map I'm talking about, like a future map of the Development map. There was an extension also from Bank going north-easterly as well! This map also included a line up to Barking from Stratford.
