The shortest underground length: antwerp (Belgium)! 7,6 km (15 were planned in the seventy's, and are partially constucted, but lie abandoned for around 25 years now)

Paris metro is 212,5 km length, but there are some parts above ground. Also, there is the RER, underground express railroad, wich is jointly operated by SNCF (railroad-company) and RATP (metro, tramway, busses), but only underground in the city center.

For Tokyo, underground parts only-
Asakusa Line- all underground- 18.3 km
Mita Line- all underground except from Shimura Sanchome to Nishi Takashimadaira- 21.5 km
Shinjuku Line- all underground except from Higashi Oshima to Funabori- 21.5 km. Because both express and local trains run on this line, there is some track built to allow for express trains to pass, but this isn't included in the number.
Oedo Line- all underground- 40.7 km
Ginza Line- all underground except for Shibuya- 14.0 km
Marunouchi Line- all underground except for Yotsuya, Myogadani to Korakuen, Ochanomizu- 25.4 km
Hibiya Line- all underground except for Naka Meguro- 20.0 km
Tozai Line- all underground except for Nakano, Minami Sunamachi to Nishi Funabashi- 16.7 km. Same deal with the Shinjuku Line, express passing track not included.
Chiyoda Line- all underground except for Yoyogi Uehara, Kita Senju to Kita Ayase- 19.3 km
Yurakucho Line- all underground except for Shin Kiba, Wako-shi- 27.6 km
Hanzomon Line- all underground- 16.8 km
Namboku Line- all underground- 19.0 km (doesn't include track shared with Mita Line from Meguro to Shirokane Takanawa)
Line 13- all underground- 3.2 km

TOTAL- 264 km give or take a few. When Line 13 is completed, it should go up to about 275 km.

This is only for the Tokyo Metro company and the Toei Subway company, and doesn't include underground segments of other railways within Tokyo proper, like the JR Keiyo Line, Rinkai Line, Tsukuba Express, JR Sobu Rapid Line, etc.

So I assume it's route length underground, and that's what I posted for NY and London.
Yeah. Thats what I thought too. I think some figures given for some of the cities are incorrect. They seem to be total city network size/length of tunnels, rather than length of route underground.

Longest Underground Distance between stations, could it be in SF?

The distance between Embarcadero Station in San Francisco and West Oakland is approximately 5 miles underground, followed by another mile or so above ground.

so the underground extension of madrid metro is 232 km

This is not completely correct. There are in fact some stretches of lines 5, 9 and 10 which are at grade. But, on the whole, the Madrid metro is very much "invisible". I´m sure there are many more kms in tunnels than in London, for instance.

Paris métro underground network is approximately 195 km.
Paris RER underground network is more than 60 km in its central part (other suburban parts of the RER are also underground).

Adding one to the other, you get more than 250 km underground rails below Paris. Though, I don't have any accurate source on this. By using Google Earth, I've been able to map clearly the underground parts of the Paris metro RER network. In red are pictured underground parts, in black are pictured the parts in open air (at grade, elevated or dug but uncovered).

Okay, I've sent an e-mail to someone who knows a lot about Paris networks and he sent me as an answer that table. I've asked him from where those data comes from and I hadn't received an answer yet. Anyway, I'm still posting the table.

As it's in French, I'll put the translations here :

ligne : line.
longueur : length.
réseau souterrain : underground network.
réseau plein air : open air network.
total : total.
arrêts : stops.
trafic annuel : annual traffic.
en kilomètres de voies doubles : in kilometers of double tracks.
en million de passagers cumulés : in millions of cumulated passengers.

According to my calculation Moscow metro's underground part is 259km. There is also world's longest fully underground line - Serpukhovsko-Temiryazevskaya line (9) 41,45km.

Barcelona line 9, under construction, is 44-45 km. long.
