Because of the current construction of the Hunter Expressway, and the western end of the Newcastle Link Road is closed, this is the modifed version of the AD sign heading northbound...
Check this out for an AD sign west of Morisset... great work by Lake Macquarie City Council! |

Because it's one of the few examples of decent signage in this thread
![]() RE: Roo's pic, seven locations on a directional sign (in one direction) might be a record! RE: Crawf's pic, SA's sign designs have grown on me. The only thing I'd like to see is the corners rounded off... |

I dislike the squared corners also. How very odd.

Why is it that the new rural highway signs no longer display the name of the road/highway ("Hume Freeway", etc) and only show the route shield number? Is there a reason why they have decided to omit those details which previously used to be displayed on the highway signs, in Victoria at least?

I guess the logic is the B and C roads aren't significant enough to warrant a name! |

Its being like that since they started rolling out the alphanumeric signs in mid 90's. edit. some street view examples hume fwy at wodonga couple 100maway vicroads have place it above the sign, which is pretty typical. most of the time you'll only see the name on a distance board but not at junction signs 20m away. i'd never noticed the names were missing until i went to find some examples. AD signage on The Horsley Drive at Smithfield - this is backed up by more detailed signage advising you what street to turn left at to end up going right (iirc behind the large tree in the background)...
Aussie hip hop fans in Thirlmere (near Picton)... One of Wollondilly Shire Council's efforts of AD signage also in Thirlmere... the text should be bigger and the lines probably not as thick. Apart from that, not too bad... |

Also, the last pic is at one of only a small number of level crossings left in Sydney. However, this is now a tourist line, as evidenced by the gate to the left - the Picton Loop closed in the 1970s.

That sign is ridiculous. I understand why the council would want to limit heavy vehicles on some roads, but why would they restrict some heavy vehicles, but allow others which are even larger?

Standard semi-trailers are not larger than 4.3 metres high, nor longer than 19 metres (according to VicRoads; I'd assume NSW has a similar definition). This sign provides specific exception for true oversize trucks.

It does make sense once you read it.
