if columbus could get its act together??? please!!! i think that columbus does have some of the best skyscrapers outside of chicago. have yall ever seen the supreme court building on front street? absolutely beautiful! and the huntington center, franklin county courthouse, leveque tower and william green building are also very nice! i dont understand why everyone has this bias against cities like columbus, st. paul, and indy? but this is only my opinion.

No one has mentioned Milwaukee in this debate at all. There's the perception out there (including among many Milwaukeeans) that when it comes to skyscrapers this city just doesn't have a seat at the table. Now, I'm not going to say Milwaukee has a great skyline. But I will say it has a respectable collection of skyscrapers. What Milwaukee lacks in height, it makes up for in variety, and quality. Name a period of American architecture, and we've got a top shelf exmple.
We have many styles. We've got your 19th Century styles: We've got your early 20th Century: How about some mid Century International Style? And some post-Modern: And some more recent buildings are far from schlocky:

wow, the results of this poll are quite definitive. minneapolis and detroit dominate, and i can see why. those leaning toward the pre-war stuff are going with detroit and those leaning more post-war are choosing minneapolis, leaving the rest of the midwest cities in the proverbial dust.

Any other "opinion" is just bias talking. --- pfft, fool we have like 5 towers! Admit it though, The Comerica Tower and the complete RenCen (IF LOCATED PROPERLY) would do ABSOLUTE WONDERS for Minny. EDIT: we could use a photoshop master to see what they would look like in Mpls... |

And while the photoshop master is busy putting the Comerica Tower into Minneapolis, he/she should see what the Wells Fargo Tower, IDS, and 225 S. 6th do for Detroit.

Seriously, the RenCen is a drab abomination compared to the cool beauty of the IDS, and I'm glad it's in Detroit. Now, Book Tower, on the other hand... |

I made these a long time ago.
I used to have one that took the best of Minneapolis and Detroit and combined them to form one awesome skyline. I think its on my old computer... ![]()

I'm still trying to figure out why so many simply think the RenCen is the worst complex of buildings in the world. I can see where you may gripe about it's location; and that is a sad point, but It's nearly the same design as the Peachtree Center.
I really don't think it's that bad (courtesy of urbanohio.com): And a few more pics of Detroit's examples. Sure I'm biased. ![]() Comerica Tower ![]() Cadillac Tower ![]() Book Cadillac Hotel ![]() Book Tower Guardian Building ![]() Penobscot Building ![]() BTW, I despise Detroit's riverfront view which is easily one of most shown views. The skyline from the city is much more impressive and shows off the smaller, older buildings hidden in the skyline.

the riverfront skyline may be the worst way that you could shoot any full skyline... ever.

LMich, I'm not sure if you agree, but I think Ren Cen is one of those places that is much more intimate with its surroundings when viewed in person. Some pictures are nice, but if I never had been to Detroit and only seen pictures, it would seem to be just a big "rock" sitting on the shore of Detroit.
Knowing the ins and outs of Ren Cen and how it associates the the busy-ness of Detroit, I appreciate it 99% more than just a photo.

Actually, I've always thought that the only angle from which the RenCen looks bad in the skyline is from the river. And yes, knowing it does give it a bit more context, but even without even driving to it or feeling how it interacts with the rest of downtown I've always thought it was quite an impressive complex in how it fit in with the skyline.
I mean, this thing adds such a unique touch to the historic skyline. Without it, Detroit could easily be mistaken for a few other skylines:
