I don't think there are any. Unless you count the new Publix down at Imperialakes.

That's a fairly sizable infusion of residential there.
Dare I suggest that we're going to pick up the paper one day soon and read about a, say, 15-story highrise ? Maybe even taller ? |

Not in our lifetime. As long as the powers that be are in office, Lakeland won't have anything remotely close to that. Publix and a few other companies could have done that years ago.

^Give it 10-15 years.
Now that Tampa and Orlando both are growing towards Lakeland more rapidly than they used to, I think that the attitude among Lakeland's power brokers will change. Especially when they realize what kind of money will be changing hands. |

Not happening, at least with what I've seen. I recently did a presentation for the LEDC on attracting young professionals to town and was given documents with renderings and aerials of several projects proposed throughout downtown and the suburbs. When I get some free time, I'll stockpile the PDFs as jpegs and upload them here.

I wish most downtown streets in Central Florida were tree-lined like those pics of Lakeland. Lakeland seems to want to be careful with it's downtown. I wouldn't want highrises across from Munn Park anyway. The old tile plant yes. Closer to Lake Morton, yes near the old Maas Bros and JCPenny's.

I read a while back that CSX was going to build a multi-million dollar multi-modal freight center in Haines City to take freight shipments originating from Chicago via Jax.

The new terminal will be built in Winter Haven. It was announced as a part of the deal for commuter rail in Orlando.

It would be nice to see Lakeland do something similar to Lake Eola Park in Orlando. A few quality, urban developments (similar to Thornton Park Central or the Paramount on Lake Eola) could really get things started there, if successful. Height is irrelevant.

I'd never heard of Dixieland Village. Are they planning on changing the streetscape for that area as well? |
