Wow, in downtown Orlando we're trying to do everything we can to ditch our parking lots in favor of development and these folks are in love with theirs. Fascinating!

You must also remember the justification as to why that site was selected for the new school and if I remember correctly, there was never any consideration for an urban setting. However, when it came down to it, they wanted the "potential site" to be highly visible and accessible to Polk, Highlands and Hardee counties. I haven't been to Lakeland Square since I moved to Jax in 2003. I assume this must be the old Mervyn's space? Also, is the movie theater in the parking lot closed?

Yes I believe it is and yes the movie theater is closed. I hadn't been there since I saw Groundhog's day in 1994.

Looks like Southeastern University is looking to add an hotel on the north side of their property. I've got to wonder what the neighbors will think once they find out about this, many of them are already upset with the school. That property used to house a single house and was surrounded by other residential properties so I assume the property is zoned residential.
