Cool pix. Any pictures of the V.A. Hospital there?
MY dad goes there from time to time. He and my Mom live in Lake Wales.

Do you know if Gresham Village is a replacment project for the County Line Center or just phase I of the County Line Center project?

Well that still doesn't tell me if it is one of the preplanned lame suburban apartment lots or if it is filling in an even more lame parking lot with a generic lame suburban apartment building.

Does it make a difference either way?

It appears that this is the first phase of the County Line Center project. However, from the look of it, it will be more suburban oriented than the initial concepts show.

I'm not crazy about the plan but it could be worse. It seems like they could have squeezed a lot more density out of this.

Where is the Lakeland HSR station planned? Will it be here or somewhere off Kathleen Road or US 98 North?

Is the USF campus part the Polytechnic area that Santiago Calatrava is a partner in?

^Yes. I'm interested to see what type of design his firm comes up with.

Same here. But at the same time it has me wondering what is Tampa doing wrong to not have a designer like him do business in the city while USF can get him.

If I remember correctly, the original HSR Station was supposed to be located I-4/Polk Parkway (West). Personally, I think it should be at I-4/Polk Parkway (East) near the new campus and the new planned exits in that area.

Also remember we are talking about Lakeland where building out instead of up is the rationale. I'm still pissed at the lack of density downtown but there's only so much you can do if you're not in office or apart of some association. At least the density Lakeland has planned is better than Auburndale has planned for just east of the Parkway.

Also, imagine one day in the near future traveling from Orlando to Lakeland via the Polk Parkway. On I-4 approaching exit 48, you enter the City of Auburndale. Then about a quarter mile from exit 41 (Polk Pkwy), you enter the city of Lakeland. Then about a half mile before the first toll, you're back in Auburndale.

You should check out Santiago Calatrava's presentation for USF (if you're interested and have not already done so). I was sold.

Legoland Coming to Polk?

As much as I would like to see this happen, the location being looked at in Polk is bad for business. It needs to be closer to the interstate. I think it's funny that Winter Haven is now being referred to as the "Bay Area".

Bay area considered for next Legoland location

I know Winter Haven ( for some reason I have been refering to it as Qinter Park lately) already has Cypress Gardens, I just don't undertand the logic of having Legoland in the center of Florida. I always thought that Cypress gardens problem was just that, they are in the center of Florida but not close to a major city that draws in people. It would even work with increasing visitors if closer to I-4. I already sent a email to the City of Tampa on trying to persuade Legoland to consider Tampa a possible location. Because really, Winter Haven is out there to most visitors and Orlando has enough theme parks, give some more to Tampa damnit!
