JRMP to catapult Iloilo as rice capital of PH
by Lydia C. Pendon ILOILO CITY – The Jalaur River Multi-purpose Project (JRMP) II, considered as the biggest river project outside of Luzon area, will hopefully swing the province of Iloilo to once again, capture the title as the rice capital of the Philippines. The Department of Agriculture and the National Irrigation Administration is eyeing to expand irrigated riceland areas from 22,340 to 31,840 hectares and improve average yield from 3.25 to 5.20 metric tons per hectare once the project’s irrigation component is in place. Earlier, Ilonggo Senator Franklin M. Drilon disclosed that the National Economic Development Authority Board has already approved the project that entails the irrigation component with a total cost of P11.212 billion. Of this amount, P8.95 billion will be funded by the Korean Eximbank as an Official Development Assistance (ODA) agreement between the Philippines and South Korea, and P2.2 billion will be funded by the Philippine government as its counterpart funds. NIA regional director Gerardo Corsiga stressed that Phase I of the project is strictly for irrigation component only and expected to be completed before the term of President Benigno Aquino expires in 2016. However, Phase II of the project that covers power generation of 6.6 megawatts and potable domestic water supply of additional 35,000 cubic meters of water per day to Iloilo will be packaged under the public private partnership (PPP). Phase I of the project covers three dams namely the 106 meters Jalaur dam reservoir, 46 meters hardfill afterbay dam and the Alibunan hardfill catchment dam and 81 kilometers highline canal.* The project aims to provide a year-round irrigation for increased agricultural production in existing ricelands and 9,500 hectares of rainfed areas. It will likewise increase production of sugarcane areas from 112,250 metric tons to 150 metric tons per annum.* JRMP is also expected to stimulate tourism activities in Iloilo, generate employment for 17,000 workers during construction, provide livelihood opportunities for fishery, diversified cropping and flood mitigation.*

indi kasum od basahun ah..
article here, wala pa TRO, underconstruction pa.. These projects were laid by one individual, named Andrew Tan, chairman & CEO of Megaworld Corporation. He is the chief of the country’s #1 BPO office landlord, enticing BPO entities and executives to venture out beyond Metro Manila and help foster industrial development in the countryside. The tycoon announced, "Now that we have successfully engineered, and continue to build up, the concentration of BPO activities in Metro Manila through our three cyberparks – Eastwood City, McKinley Hill and Newport City – it is proper time that we at Megaworld embark on developing the urban countryside as well, specifically Iloilo and Cebu, with our high-profile BPO projects. Along with our cyberparks in Metro Manila, Iloilo Business Park and The Mactan Newtown express our BPO triangle strategy’’. Andrew Tan of Megaworld envisions a ‘BPO triangle’ that will make the country even more globally competitive. "All three offer BPO companies huge benefits in matters of lease prices and expertise. Iloilo and Cebu are highly urbanized and local universities provide quality graduates every year. The locals, because of their native dialects, have a charming vocal intonation that BPO companies can take advantage of in servicing their clients," Tan shared. He added that once BPO firms expand into the countryside, this will improve family incomes and make a ripple effect in related industries in these two provinces, including their neighbors. Megaworld initiated constructing the Richmonde Tower in Iloilo Business Park last May. The BPO component of this tower will run from the second to sixth floor, offering more than 9,000 square meters of prime office space for BPO locators. The upper sections are designed for Richmonde Hotel Iloilo. The hotel will host 90 guest rooms, rating from luxury ones to junior suites. Its seventh-level amenities deck features play amenities such as a lap pool, children’s pool and fitness center, while the business center on the same level will include meeting rooms and a conference room. The first retail element of the project, Festive Walk, will be finished in the second part of 2012. With these pilot projects, Megaworld is looking forward to transform the 60 hectare former Iloilo Airport into a new business center in Western Visayas. Company is projecting that Iloilo Business Park will provide more than 24,000 places for the BPO sector, whereas its retail component will ingress more than 200,000 square meters of space for the commercial section. Megaworld expects to install about 40,000 new jobs within Iloilo City, thus helping boost up the local economy. Indeed, 2015 for Iloilo looks brighter than ever. |
