A preview of what the last building in that row of buildings will look like (on the right obviously):

Could really be the highlight of that street.

A true masterpiece. They just don't build 'em like that anymore (except in Dresden ).

Would be great except for that photo of the heathen Martin Luther.

Mother Church had her revenge in the afterlife.

All buildings in this shot were reconstructed over the last 15 years:

An der Frauenkirche 16/17

Thanks Kampy, for next portion of pictures of impressive rebuilding of Dresden's NM.
I don't know if this question has been already talked over, but I would like to know, if there are plans of tearing-down commieblocks and replace them whith historic houses, in other than NM places, in center of Dresden?

More seriously, great looking reconstruction. Why can't we just go back to making buildings like this. If it ain't broke don't fix it. We can all do without concrete monstrosities.

Not that I know of. Eastern Germany's losing its population, so if Commieblocks are torn down they're usually not replaced by anything.

Dresden ist aber Ostdeutschland, oder?
Ueber 1Mio Einwohner d.h. es braucht Zeit um leer zu werden.

Seriously though: I don't think the big cities of Eastern Germany are actually going to de-populate. Why would they if they get so much money pumped into them and become as beautiful as some of the Wetern cities?
I remember German politicians both federal- and staats-politicians as well as the mayors of the cities saying you Germans are facing tremendous influx of Poles and Czechs who want to live and reside in the German cities left behind by the Eastern Germans going away to live in western parts of Germany.
This again was supposed to lead to blurring of the borders and co-existance of populations of Poles, Czechs and Germans in the Eastern cities. Funny how things change.

As for the thread and the photos: Wonderful!!!

Pity I haven't discovered this thread earlier.
I can't believe my eyes. Been to Dresden in 1997 and the city looked totally different, than on these pics. Frauenkirche was a big ruin, there was a huge empty space around it covered with dark stones - I guess original parts of the church that were going to be used in reconstruction. Dresden at that time looked very depressing. The city now is incomparable. You guys should be proud of work you've done on rebuilding the city. Big respect.
