Hi all,

I was in Dresden a few years ago and there was a very ugly Soviet-styled building right in the center of Dresden. I tried to find information about what it's called but on Google Street View I see a large sign on it saying "TICKETCENTRALE".

Is there any plan to remove this building and restore what previously was there?

My guess is you're referring to the Kulturpalast. Suffice it to say, we've had quite a few discussions about the building in this thread.

The building is sadly here to stay, at least for the time being.

Until the architect dies and then hopefully it can meet the wrecking ball.

If it's within his financial means, the architect in question would do well to hire a food taster

I don't know Dresden well, but I think that city doesn't have satisfactory cultural hall except Kulturpalast, so sadly I don't think it will be demolished soon. For me the main problem are those stalinist buildings on Wildrufferstrasse, totally disrespecting the street plan.

Just to clearify this, the Kulturpalast is now a protected monument and its currently under renovation.

We really shouldn't worry about the Kulturpalast too much. It will be completely hidden seen from the Neumarkt area. It's also an apt addition to Altmarkt, even though of course single buildings would create a more urban atmosphere.

But it's there to stay for now, so please move on. Repeating the same discussion every 2 pages seems like a waste of time, doesn't it.

I agree, considering the architectual losses there're tons of other buildings to focus on in a short to medium term.

I don't think I'll ever be able to move past the buildings with flat roofs though, tey ruin all the aerials.

This is off topic, but what's happening with the Sächsische Staatsbank buildings? Thought I saw something on Baustation Dresden that the lower parts are getting demolished?

Looks like this development is moving forward, looks like modern residential. I'm not seeing much in the way of historical reconstruction

I would really like to see how they incorporate the Orangarie into this developement.

Sadly, this project is yet another addition to Dresden that blends better with the Kulturpalast than the city's historic past. As such, Dresden, other than the core NeuMarkt, continues on a track that is creating an urban setting that looks like any of 100s of other cities worldwide.

This was asked in an earlier post. Are there any plans to display items recovered from the excavation of these basements?

^ Some of them were proposed to be integrated in the reconstructions. I think this was mentioned before.
