The glass thingy doesn't look that good but I don't think I'm gonna lose any sleep over it.

I don't know. To be honest adding a different facade would seem a bit strange (I'm simply not a fan of eg replacing a baroque facade with a neo-classical one and stuff like that). It's not a beautiful building but compared to some of the other Commie crap it's ok.

They'll probably continue painting it when it gets warmer.

Some of these reconstructions look as cheap as modern buildings in historical center towns. What is new with Dresden is the size of the project but architecturally speaking, it's as little ambitious as what is currently done in France (façadisme, ...).

^ If you're speaking about the Quartier III (the first photos of Kampflamms last post), I've gotta agree. Sadly the bulk of those reconstructions is made of concrete and roughly flat roofs...

Whereas there are some really high quality reconstructions, which are made with huge efforts and love for the details - by real enthusiasts, who know what 'beautiful' means in terms of architecture. But even the arguable worse buildings are a huge benefit to the whole area.
I just can only edorse what's happening in Dresden, it's somethin truly unique in Germany (as it is probably in the whole world) these days - I'm just thankful, this area was dead as pants since a long time. Now the life comes back there, nobody (and especially not the modernists) can deny the ongoing revival of a baroque pearl

I think it's gonna be ok. The building that stood there before the war looked blank too. If the prewar buildings essentially had a facade w/o any sort of ornaments, we can build new ones (as a matter of fact I actually prefer the new one to the old one).

This project is amazing. As good as one can possibly hope for. Thanks for the update. Will definitely visit Dresden this summer.

Great Job !!!!!!!

Hope they will reconstruct as many old buildings as posible in the city center !!

Any city without a historical center is a DEAD and COLD city, no matter how this upsets the so called "Progressist and modern architects" , its their problem !!!!

Lets bring the success of this reconstruction to many more German cities, like Berlin city center, to return some of the old bauty taken away by the savage war !!!

why not just create our own beautiful style taking influences from these revivals instead of building lifeless modern clumps?

That's right! Now it's really time for a new architecture style or at least a revival of those grand old styles.

Dresden looks so wonderful during Christmas time. Once everything is finished, it will be again one of Germany's most beautiful cities (maybe even Europe...).
