This is "Hotel Stadt Leipzig" Not in a bad shape, considering it was build 1835 and is sitting empty for 60 Years.
Renovations will speed up in the coming months. The roof has been taken of last fall.

Dresden reconstruction is absolutely amazing, and I'm looking forward to visiting the city
I have two questions about two pictures in that before/after article.

1) Second picture from the bottom. Will the water be brought back, like before the war?
2) Fourth picture from the bottom. Will that part of the city be reconstructed too? Maybe in the future?

I think they should tear down the Culture Palace and build a memorial to the victims of Allies shelling on Dresden. By the way, today is a tribute to all victims of that tragedy. My sentiments to all German people specially to Dresden citzens!

Thank you for the kind sentiments and thoughts. 70 years ago today, Dresden was an inferno of death and destruction, and only in the last 25 years was there ever a glimmer of hope that some of its architectural richness would be rebuilt.

There is a subtle memorial for the bombing victims outside of town, hidden away. While other victims' memorials of WWII are front and center in Germany and all over the USA, remembrances and mourning for the poor German souls killed by actions like the Dresden terror attacks are not politically acceptable. I doubt we will ever see a notable memorial with a significant dedication ceremony, that draws tourist crowds, and which commemorates the German war dead.

I wouldn't say so.
The German populace in its modern shapes is still juvenile and on a way for a continuation of identity.

But anyway. The clearly most powerful monument ever built against the bombing of cities,
for peace and culture was completed in 2005: Dresden's Frauenkirche.

The Frauenkirche is one of the most beautiful buildings in the world in my opinion.

I agree. And now, with this black memories all over this reconstructed church, it is one of the most influential historical monuments ever. I agree with your all...

I hope you are correct, particularly if you mean that the emerging German identity will come to see the 1930s-1940s generations of average citizens in a different light.

All these reconstruction projects you see emerging in Germany recently are an outright expression of what I said. As, generally speaking, the cultural outcome of the country is. It's a positive patriotism, to shed light on a people that has been hiding behind its dark shadows for decades - these times finally fade away peacefully.

For whatever its worth, this American has donated to the Fraunkirche in Dresden and the Statdschloss in Berlin, not out of a sense of guilt over the war, but because I think the German people are good people and deserve to get back what was lost. Every time I look at a picture of the Fraunkirche I feel like it is mine as well as Dresden's.

Talking about the Frauen church which is absolutely stunning!
There is another gigantic church in Germany reconstructed and finished just last summer.
Its called St. Georgen and is from the Year 1295. It is located in a town called Wismar on the Eastern Seaboard. It doesn't belong to Dresden, I know, but there s no own thread.
The Eastern Seaboard is an area, where germans make vacation in there own country and is almost unknown to foreigners. St. Georgen was damaged during war and was supposed to be destroyed by the communists like another 68 cathedrals and churches, many untouched by war. The People sabotaged the plans to dismantle it. The church was then left open to the skies on purpose, to let the ocean weather destroy it! In 1990 a gable collabs occurred, smashing on three homes and killing two people. Wismar is a medieval town with narrow streets. Not as well known as Frauenkirche in Dresden. The rebuilding took from 1990 to 2014.

Pictures from Wikipedia. If not fitting to Dresden, just delete this post.

I don't think one can call a strategic bombing done by the Royal Air Force a "terror attack". It was war, after all, and one that Germany started.

If anybody was guilty of the Dresden air raids, it was the Nazis and Hitler, but definitely not the Allied Forces.
