The Eagle, thanks for posting the picture of the long hallway! It's a beautiful room, but I have to admit I don't like the display cases set in the windows. The wood design looks dated to me, and out of place. I'd prefer something either more modern or historicist.

Very large construction area indeed! Looking forward to see it after the work has been finished.

So nice to see the restoration of Neumark I really hope Sweden will take inspiration from Dresden and Potsdam. Are there any other plans to restore any other part of Dresden?

^Are there any cities in Sweden that have lost their historic centers? If yes, I suspect that's due to careless "modern" urban planning and not bombings, since if I recall correctly Sweden wasn't involved in either of the world wars.

Well, part of old town Stockholm was demolished by city planners in the sixties to give way to this modern monster:

Yes, Sweden wasn't part of any of the world wars, but I would like to quote an american tourist in Stockholm in 70s asked his swedish guide:
-So who did bomb your City during the war? The British or the germans?
-Neither of them, we did it ourself.

The swedish government during the 50s-70s thought that the Swedish cities were unmodern and should be fit for the Car. Therefore was the city centre of almost all Swedish cities demolished, Stockholm where I am from lost a large part of the older part of the town, but we were quite lucky. We still have the old town and other large part with old architecture. There are cities in Sweden with almost no remaining architecture.

Look here: https://sv.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stockh...nu_i_f%C3%A4rg

Almost all buildings in this photo is now demolished:

^Wow, thank you very much for the links, that is very sad indeed. Some of the areas shown in the pictures still look fine, but then it's clear a lot of valuable buildings were torn down. Nonetheless, Stockholm still seems to have a nice, relatively well-preserved old town, unlike many German (and British and Eastern European) large cities.

Yeap, that is true. I still love Stockholm for its astounding architecture. We do still have large part intact, but if you look at the rest of Sweden there is just a few cities like Visby and Lund that was saved. Almost all other lost large part of its history.

PS: If you want to see more of the buildings that was demolished, look at this thread: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showth...1503602&page=4

Amazing work. The only thing that bugs me is the roof structure. Why not use a set of good ole clay tiles?

It won't happen of course, but it would sure be nice if they were redone properly.

What's 'properly' in this case? At old pictures genuine buildings look pretty much the same. The only detail which is differenet is dormer windows, there were less of them. But maybe this was the result of an earlier reconstruction.

They are exact reconstructions of the original baroque facades. There's nothing to do "properly" here. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Jn7Qu8QcqS...0/DSC03592.JPG
