Stop für den Traum vom Belvedere Dresden. Die Sächsische Landesregierung hat heute das Scheitern bekannt gegeben.

Stopp for the dream of the Belvedere Dresden. Today the Saxon government has announced the failure.

More of the "new buildings" at Quartier III. The scaffolding's widely demount now.

Beautiful except for the "modern" buildings. Why the **** did they do it? Like there's not enough modern building in Germain towns already. This is absurd. 75% of historical architecture in Germain cities distroyed and replaced by (mostly ugly) modern crap and when a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to restore some of the old beauty arises, they still have to squeeze in some of the modern crap. Like they don't have enough of it on Prager Strasse.

Anyway, overall the NeuMarkt reconstruction is a dream project. Any hope to tear down Kulturpalast and/or reconstruct Altmarkt? Fingers crossed for our Saxon brothers in arms!

Looks good to me. One thing that has to be remembered is that the places where there are modern (not new...happy now Го́голь?) buildings today, there used to be pretty bland ones before the war. Ie the facade of that big white building with the black roof is probably more detailed than the pre-WW2 one.

Interesting. That makes me feel a bit better.

Any info on the Kulturpalast or Altmarkt? Might Kulturpalast end-up like its counterpart in Berlin. My impression is that Saxons are the most conservative tribe in the East Germany (e.g., CDU is doing better in Sachsen than in any other eastern state) and, therefore, I'd expect these reconstructions to have more support than in ultraliberal Berlin. Plus I think Dresden has a better economy (high tech + fewer bums to feed) than Berlin and thus might be able to afford to spend more money on these projects.)

Nice Project!

PS: Ultraliberal Berlin? The communists rule the city.

I used the word "liberal" as it is used in the US, where it means left-wing whereas freedom-loving is refered to as "libertarian." I should have used "socialist."

^ Indeed, there are some great perspectives coming back to the baroque old town. Dresden gains a lot of urbanity with this project, no matter if there are some points of critique. Let's keep in mind: It's the biggest old town reconstruction in Europe since the 50s!

Some more views:

Nice!
When the Neumarkt area will be finished (and if there isn't too much modern crap) Dresden once again can claim to be the most beautiful big city in Germany (at least in this little part of the city).

Edit:
And I'm pretty sure the mood in Dresden and its people will change somehow. They can be even more proud of their city. It will be something like a second Munich (hope Dresden gets as many tourists too)! XD

Time for a panoramic view. It wasn't easy to upload these pics here, since there were no URLs available at the page
(*****************) where I found them.
So, damn fellows, honor your Teuton and bring him the Rotkäppchen Sekt!

Good news everybody! The Gewandhaus (a modernist piece of junk) won't be built.

Would have been in the grey shaded area:

Instead it'll hopefully look like this:

Yeah, there was nothing there before the war. The old Gewandhaus was torn down in 1791.
