Why new and old?

Hello,

I noticed in many of the pictures of the New Market that while many of the buildings are faithful recreations of the originals, some of them are much more modern in style. Could someone please tell me why this was done and what determines which style is used for a particular building?

Thanks!

This was done because architects and others screamed in a chorus "disney land" if it would have been after them, there would be not much reconstructed at all, but the pressure for reconstruction was too large and could not be ignored. The current way of building is some sort of compromise. After all do the investors have a certain freedom of deciding how to built their blocks, even though there are guidelines and certain buildings have to be reconstructed completely original or at least with an original facade.

A really nice new view (will be even better once the Heinrich-Schütz-Residenz is finished...and remember, none of these buildings stood there a mere 3 years ago or at least they weren't finished):

Sophienkirche

I was wondering if there are any plans to reconstruct the Sophienkirche in Dresden? Thanks in advance for any response!

As far as I know, there are no plans, especially since there is a different building in its place now.

More pics

Are there any proposals to extend the reconstruction beyond the new market, removing the commie blocs behind the current building location facing the old market.

-The buildings seen behind this image.

What stage has the reconstruction of the centre of Frankfurt reached?

They were recently renovated so I think they're here to stay.

With regards to Frankfurt...I think they're still debating about what to do. No concrete plans just yet.

The two monuments/statues give you a good idea of what the area looks like today.

should be roughly the same angle (obviously not as far back)

Rampische Straße 29...a project that will be entirely financed by donations (around €2 million):

Was Valencia destroyed or damaged during the civil war?
