Wow, the Salzgasse and the Rampische strasse look really great! It finally gives a feel that a city centre is rebuilt. Up until now it was merely the buildings facing the Neumarkt that were rebuilt, and that looked great when you stood on that square, but if you deviate a bit from the square you would still be in a deserted landscape. The second picture by Kampflamm shows that that is becoming a thing of the past.

I was in Dresden in August 2007 for the last time; seeing these pictures makes me want to visit the city again following summer

I will confess, these reconstructions brought tears to my eyes. They are simply brilliant. I'm astonished. It is simply an Exemplary development which has restored Dresden it's classical and timeless beauty and made me a fan of the city! I hope my city's authorities take a similar example!

No there weren't really any destroyed cities in my country. It wasn't bombed by anyone during WWII but neither from the Turkish Invasion in 1974. However the old parts of my city, Larnaca, have been/are bulldozed so that modern highrises which are mostly extremely ugly will be/have been built. It's terrible. You see beautiful classical med architecture gems within the most ugly blocks of apartments. The government only recently decided that SOME should be preserved but the rest should be torn down.

That is like my city.
Much of it was demolished in the modern craze. Beautiful buildings demolished.
