Dresdner Neumarkt - Construction site update

Let's have a look at the construction progress of Neumarkt area.

Still some snow left

Heinrich-Schütz-Residenz & Köhlersches Haus, completely finished now

British Hotel

Hotel at Rampische Straße

Reconstructions at Rampische Str.

Strange way of construction, but still better than anything modernist

Salzgasse, some decent modulated buildings (no reconstructions here)

Source of all images shown above: Harmonica, APH-Forum

Bonus: Nightly view from Salzgasse to Frauenkirche (Hotel Suitess to the left)

Über-awesome!

Will it be demolished or at least modernized?

No...it's also a reconstruction. It was rebuilt from 2000 to 2002.

Which building are you talking about? Those buildings on the Altmarkt side of the Wilsdruffer Straße are pretty great actually. They are Stalinist GDR architecture in the end. See here.

If you're talkin about the bland building with the light red roof to the right:
There are no definite plans yet, but it rather might be demolished sooner than later.

This map might help:

light orange framed: construction starts soon
red framed: should really be demolished!!! But not in the near future...

Where are some other examples of European reconstructions?
Is Potsdam near Dresden?

Potsdam is near Berlin.

If you give the Russians some money they may rebuild Königsberg (Kaliningrad)

I don't want to be impolite.
But could you please make your own thread about reconstructions in Amsterdam? I mean, this project is very interesting but this thread is about Dresden.

Just curious,
are they hoping to rebuild the whole city?

These Dresden developments are just stunning, and mind boggling. Why isn't Berlin doing this?

Well, Berlin is doing something like this but a bit different (just have a look at the proposed new old city castle). Don't forget however that Berlin is pretty much bankrupt.

this is a very relevant diversion from the topic which is about European attitudes to reconstruction and I thought it was perfectly placed!

Don´t be so kleinkariert. This thread won´t die when someone posts one or two reconstruction projects from another city.

When are starting works on QUARTIER III? This empty space is a real eye sore.
