Erbse's answer: yes = catoneinutica: happy

Unfortunately, that wasn't the case at the Taschenberg Palais Hotel. The exterior was very fine and historically accurate, but the interior was...lots of red carpeting and stainless-steel light fixtures - that's all I can remember, it was so blandly hotel-modern. The only sense you had that you were inside a rebuilt old building was the thickness of the window sills and the solid, heavy feeling of the exterior walls.

Trees can grow along the Elbe all they want.

There will be trees in front of Quartier VIII. And a fountain, probably.

But historically, there wasn't any green on the square - as on most old town squares throughout European cities.

I get a feeling that the hotel shoul be one storey lower, so that you don't get a feeling of the building reconstructed being crampled and squeezed in a space too small for it.

I think its not so bad when there are some slight height variations. Of course the point is that the hotel is quite big compared to the buildings around it, but I guess one has to wait and see how it turns out finally.

I wasn't talking about planting trees in the middle of the square but atleast perimentrically and along streets. This lack of greenery reminds me of Vienna. But anyway. The restoration still looks nice!

Metamorphosis of a city, so impressive

Bold idea to go with so many reconstructions – definitely way to go.

Dresden is increasingly beautiful.
I don't care for the new modern buildings, I think Dresden should go with classic all the way.
It is beautiful and I don't know why we should end a long tradition of city building for something as silly as Disney Land.

Sure it is not ended yet, but one storey less and this will be perfect. I just believe this building is just too long for this height and it would look a lot better if its facade was made into 3 fake buildings of a different composition, and then, it would have 3 heights, and one of the height already made would look ok. If you know what I am talking about what I just explained

True, but even already two different facades would have made a big difference. I am going so far that just cutting apart the building in two halfs by simply using different colours and tiny differences (not necessarily different heights) would have been enough.

Aber wenn der wenn nicht wär', wär' der Bettelmann Kaiser

The "Innside Premium Hotel" will definitely look better than this piece of sh*t:

It will. But sadly it's still going to destroy one of the greatest baroque streets we'll ever have on this planet.

But even in 1945 the facades weren't baroque anymore, or were they?

On this plot there were baroque buildings with simple facades.

But the main problem is the lack of segmentation, there can't be just one big hotel.
The design is pretty decent though, but this is just the wrong place for it.

The Altmarkt would have been perfect for that Innside Premium building.

Due to the economic crisis I think that's still pretty difficult to predict. Maybe some stuff will start in the fall (eg Quartier VIII).

Some new pics courtesy of Harmonica, APH-Forum

Construction for the next row of houses (Rampische Str. 23-27 ) should get underway soon:

Is the British Hotel still on a waiting-to-start thing or has it started? Last I heard it was on hold because of the economy.

It's still on hold, according to recent news. I hope it's going up next year.
