They could have given it a red roof or something.

Bloody modernists!
I think it's fine. During the whole reconstruction projcets building in a similar style like this one were appearing in the streets. I don't find this bad. It's just the background to admire the most unique and valuable baroque tenements houses. In Warsaw or Gdańsk (German Danzig) there are a lot of exapmles like this as well. But this 1950ties background were simple, old-style buildings, without this modern touch. In form dresdener buildings as well as those from Warsaw or Gdansk reapeted the form of the overall style and way of erecting buildings. It's just the sign of the times, that 60 yrs ago it was more similar to baroque architecture - which is I think as well the consequense of socialist style in architecture - and now we give it a bit more modernist touch.
Look at other rebuilding towns after war in Germany in this ugly as for the old towns International Style. This sucks! Not Dresden reconstruction.

That isn't what bothers me.
I don't mind that it isn't Baroque, I don't like the design itself.
The only thing that really bothers me is the matching colors, it looks bad.
Granted, the structure isn't that great to begin with, but the roof is just.. bleh!
Heck, even if the roof was black it would look so much better!

I wouldn't really care of one random building as long as it's not horrible. Some minor colour or layering material changes can be done when realising the project. I do care about overall though.

Imho it looks quite good, modern tenement in a classic shape. Couldnt agree more about the one in the middle though.

There is nothing wrong with facadism in my opinion as long as it is a well done, that means as long as it is masters the proportions for example. Even the more if its a reconstruction of the aesthetics of a former old town.
100% agree! I've really had enough with all the pretentious arguments about the "truth of the building" - ie that the appearance should "truely" correspond to the building method. What about the truth of the block, the area, the city? These smartass ideas have screwed up most cities in Greece, where for the last 60 years if a building does not have a concrete, glass and/or metal appearance it's not considered "honest"

Bravo to Dresden!

Some good news first...the modern Gewandhaus won't be built which paves the way for a nice classic facade facing the Neumarkt.

So instead of this:

We will probably get this:

Some updates...
