Do they sell any apartments in that area? How much do they sell for?

I'm glad to see Dresden being rebuilt. In the 1960s and '70s many US cities were likewise 'bombed out'...by urban renewal and we lost many important landmarks. I wish someone over here could see what is happening in Dresden and start a movement to rebuild what was lost.

I agree. It's just horrible. I think it'll be knocked down within ten years and replaced with something better

I'd hope so. But no way. If Rampische Strasse is completed, they'll think about structuring it with different colors at least. That'd make for a start.

Looks like those are the failures that have to be made and we have to cope with, so we'll see better reconstructions in the future. The learning effect is already visible at the Neumarkt, comparing earlier with more recent quarters.

I think if they separat the three parts of the facade by using different colours its already perfectly fine. Don't forget that the former buildings were no beauties either and the small structured nature of Rampische Straße would be restored by that. How certain is it that they are really going to repaint it anytime soon?

Amazing to see the Royal Castle getting reconstructed that carefully.

Keep in mind, it looked like this in the 80s:

I agree. But it's also highlights exactly the sort of thing that was lost during the war, much of which is gone forever.

thats the nature of war. it happens in every war. it happend in every war at any time and any place in history.

but what is even more shocking was the willfull destroying and destruction of (intact) buildings by german authorities after the war.

i have readed that those aware destruction even destroyed more buildings than the war, but i can harldy believe/imagine that.

But such behaviour can be found before the second world war.

I have made a thread in german about that. It include examples of destruction and saveing building which cam close to be destroyed

http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showth...572&highlight=

you may dont understand german, but the german wiki links should be all availble in english

Or you can try bublefish and other onlientranslation tools to get the meaning of the texts in the thread

The destruction of the Citycastle in Berlin is maybe the most famous example.
And thanks to the citizens of Dresden, that the rest of the church of our lady didn't get demolish.

I doubt the made up these paintings, it rather looks like they are the original way these walls were painted before.
