I wholeheartedly agree. We know these buildings from photographs that were taken when they were 150+ years old. I suspect that when they were new they looked rather different.

They seem to simulate other German cites where some buildings were destroyed and the new construction approximated the style it replaced.

What I cannot understand is WHY they would reconstruct an area and not go all the way. Why, WHY throw those mediocre things into the mix when you have the opportunity to do otherwise?

Wow. What an incredibly stark and uninviting scene -- a barren cityscape of uniformly ugly lowrise buildings around a flat, entirely-paved open area utterly lacking in any natural elements. For god's sake, can't they plant some trees or something? I would consider suicide if forced to live with that view out my window.

Nice photos though.

Hmm, some barren cityscapes of uniformly ugly lowrise buildings around flat, entirely-paved open areas utterly lacking in any natural elements are praised as very beautiful towns... Prague for example.

The problem is, that modern building looks very cheap compared to the reconstructed ones.

Agree, they should pant some trees. The square looks very empty and huge.

They are indeed going to plant trees and to fill some room with street furniture.

Geduld, people.

Probably is because they haven't dared to do something excessive. It could be worse
