Great stuff indeed! The British Hotel is a personal favorite of mine. I'd like to visit again tomorrow, but I think we'll wait until 2012 or so before dropping by, since Dresden appears to be going through such a "transitional phase" right now.

PS: erbse, is everything still on schedule for the Berlin Schloss? Any talk of reconstructing any of the interiors?

I'd like to know the names of the architects involved in rebuilding the Neumarkt, how can I know? Thanks

Is there any movement to remove the Kulturpalast and replace the area with historically appropriate structures?

I guess you could say there are some people that are championing its removal but it's just recently been renovated so it's here to stay.

This was one of the proposals for a post-Kulturpalast building:

Too bad the Kulturpalast survives. Funny how it is often the case that bad things prevail while good things fade away. Having that monstrosity in a focal point location in the Neumarkt/Altmarkt area is like having a great big drip of mustard on one's tuxedo lapel. Perhaps with some heavy landscaping and well selected art pieces, the facade can be softened a bit to blend better.

Why not rebuild the old houses exactly like they were and not "in a simpler style"

What "simpler style" are you talking about? They either fully reconstruct a building's facade or build something new.

Many times, the ornaments of the original building are not replicated in the new one

You're talking in puzzles.

So far they reconstructed all the ornaments at the buildings they wanted to reconstruct.
