As far as I know that reconstruction is on hold because of a dispute between the owner of that plot and the owner of the building on the right. There are some concerns about the possible lack of sunlight that could be caused by the building standing there. Ridiculous quite frankly since the owner of the building on the right wanted to initially reconstruct that hotel as well but I guess is now pissed off that he didn't get the plot of land.

Probably old (pre-WW2) basements.

that is correct. The escavation of the area unearthed many structural basements and sub-basements from former infrastructures. Some were currently in use, but most had been literally buried. Structureal engineers evaluate their integrity so as to affirm continuation as part of the reconstruction or required replacement.

I have always been wondering if any human remains had been found as surely these catacombs must have been used as bomb shelters.

let's hope the dispute gets resolved and the new building moves ahead. It's pretty funny that the owner of the existing building would use sunlight as a means to block the efforts of the new building. A main feature of the Alt Stadt, and most other old city centers, is the tight-fitting configuration of the structures and hence the interesting way sunlight streams in between the narrow open areas.

Kampflamm,
What ever became of those revised (non-modern) buildings that were supposed to go into Quartier VI ?

Amazing progress, looks great, and Vielen Dank for the detailed pictures!

How much of the reconstruction is funded by private vs. public funds? Are there tight restrictions around what can be constructed in Alt Stadt?

I would love to see Kulturpalast building properly integrated into the area. Ideally the facade on the 3 sides facing the Frauenkirche redone in a more baroque style, while retaining the back wall with the Socialist mural to maintain a piece of history.

Does anyone know if Palais Hoym will be reconstructed? If so, will work begin soon?

Yes, Palais Hoym will be rebuild. But as for now only one half (facing Landstra▀e) of the Palais is really sure to be recontructed like it originally was. For the other half (facing Rampische Gasse) there are simply no plans yet.
As far as I know, there are no investors (for both parts) yet. So reconstruction isn't starting any time soon.

British Hotel:

The lower, slightly darker color, will probably be used for the entire building.

So will be painted in Pink? I've imagined in yellow or ocher.

Before I make a fool of myself...which is easy ? I live in part of the new world.....Australia....we have history going back milliniea.....but because Aboriginals didn't build many buildings ? means a couple of hundred years ? and when something is destroyed by ??? replacing it with something new or it burned down etc there is a cry when 'they' say rebuild it as it was......I have visited Europe...( love it ) and see many places where reproduction of pre WWII has taken place......If it is true reproduction....I really liked that but often I got the feeling I was at Disneyland...no offence? I hope the cultural history is retained and restoration of historic and wonderful buildings continues but hope authenticity and care is taken for future generations......
