The Atomium is a monument built for Expo '58, the 1958 Brussels World's Fair. Designed by André Waterkeyn, it is 103-metre (335-feet) tall, with nine steel spheres connected so that the whole forms the shape of a unit cell of an iron crystal magnified 165 billion times.

Tubes which connect the spheres along the 12 edges of the cube and all eight vertices to the centre enclose escalators connecting the spheres which contain exhibit halls and other public spaces. The top sphere provides a panoramic view of Brussels. Each spheres is 18 metres in diameter.

Maybe this would have been number one, but I didn't see it in real life.

Interesting.
But who designed it and what city can it be found?
Is it part of a private residence or public building?

by one of my architectural heroes... Coop Himmel(b)lau I think its an office addition but its in Vienna. I've also heard rumor that got this approved under a "permanent installation" as opposed to a building addition...but thats rumor

a small and old one, but surely a cool one:

Sniezka Mountain Observatory (meteo station and a small hostel) in Sudety Mountains, Poland, built in 1969.

Sniezka in Karpacz. I've been there! Only takes about 4 hours one way but it's still fun and worth it.
